  2. Class Basics Key Truths: • The church is A FAMILY. • God expects you to be A MEMBER of a church family. • A Christian without a church family is an ORPHAN.

  3. Class Basics • That I will commit myself to CHRIST and to the CHURCH FAMILY.

  4. Why am I here? • God made me to LOVE me! • We were created to ENJOY personal relationship with God and to MANAGE all of the rest of God’s creation! This makes us special!

  5. What’s the problem? • Man has a natural desire to BE BOSS and to ignore God’s principles for living. • The Bible calls this attitude: SIN.

  6. What does God want me to do? Obey the GOSPEL What is the Gospel? The Gospel is the DEATH , BURIAL, and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ.

  7. How do I obey the Gospel? • I apply Jesus’ death through REPENTANCE. • I apply Jesus’ burial through WATER BAPTISM. • I apply Jesus resurrection through RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT.

  8. Repent of your sins • BELIEVE that Jesus died to pay for your sins, and that He rose again, and is alive today. • ADMIT that God has not been first place in your life and ask Him to forgive your sins. • DECLARE that you will no longer have control of your own life. • INVITE Jesus Christ to come into your life and be the director (“Lord”) of your life.

  9. Why should I be baptized? • The Bible indicates water baptism is part of SALVATION. • Because Jesus COMMANDS it. • Because the Apostles COMMAND it. • To follow the example set by JESUS.

  10. What is the meaning of baptism? • Baptism is how my sins are WASHED AWAY . • Baptism is how I am BURIED with Jesus

  11. Why be baptized by immersion? • Because JESUS was baptized that way. • Every baptism in the BIBLE was by immersion. • The word “Baptize” means to DIP UNDER water.” • It best symbolizes a BURIAL .

  12. Why be baptized in the name of Jesus? • It is the baptismal formula taught by PETER. • This was the baptismal formula taught by PAUL. • No other baptismal mode was practiced in the BIBLE!

  13. Who should be baptized? • Every person who has BELIEVED in Christ and has repented should be baptized.

  14. What is the Holy Spirit? • It is a PROMISE OF GOD. • It is the indwelling SPIRIT OF GOD.

  15. Why receive the Holy Spirit? • It is a part of the NEW BIRTH EXPERIENCE. • It is your RESURRECTION POWER. • It will lead you to all TRUTH. • It is our COMFORTER.

  16. How do I receive the Holy Spirit? • BELIEVE that it is real and it is for you. • ASK for it. • Begin to praise the Lord and THANK Him for it.

  17. How will I know I have received the Holy Spirit? • You will speak with other TONGUES.

  28. How should Christians treat one another? • And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.Ephesians 4:32 (NKJV) • Be kind • Tenderhearted • Forgiving

  29. How should Christians treat one another? Beware of ENVY & COMPETITION because they result in confusion and evil things.

  30. Attitude toward Government • Government is ordained and appointed by GOD. • If we resist the power we resist the ordinance of God and bring JUDGMENT on ourselves. • Christians should PAY THEIR TAXES.

  31. Our Tongue Affects Relationships • Jesus said that the mouth speaks about what is in the HEART. • Jesus went on to explain that we will give account for our WORDS -- by them we will either be justified or condemned.

  32. Hindrances to Good Relationships • Guilt He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Proverbs 28:13 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

  33. Hindrances to Good Relationships • Blame and Anger • When God asked Adam if he ate the fruit of the tree in Genesis 3:12, instead of taking responsibility for his actions, he responded by BLAMING Eve for giving him a bite of it.

  34. Hindrances to Good Relationships "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,nor give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27 (NKJV) • Angry feelings are not a sin -- IMPROPER responses to angry feelings are sin. • How soon should we get rid of any angry feelings? BEFORE THE DAY IS OVER

  35. Hindrances to Good Relationships • A PROUD look • A LYING tongue • Hands that shed INNOCENT blood • A heart that devises WICKED plans • Feet that are swift in running to EVIL • A false witness that speaks LIES • One who sows DISCORD among brethren • Self-centeredness • Pride

  36. Hindrances to Good Relationships • Offences and Forgiveness To whom should we go to FIRST to discuss the matter? TO THE PERSON WHO OFFENDED ME What should we do when we realize that we have offended someone? BE RECONCILED

  39. How to Have a Christian Family • God's delegated authority does not give anyone the right to become tyrants! It is not about power it is about SERVING. The higher the higher your rank, the greater your duty.

  40. How to Have a Christian Family What is the responsibility of leadership? • Leadership is responsible to watch for the SOULS placed under their authority. • They must be careful to execute their authority carefully because they must give an ACCOUNT TO GOD.

  41. The Husband's Responsibility to His Wife • Two key words sum up the New Testament teaching of the husband's responsibility to his wife: • HONOR • LOVE

  42. The Husband's Responsibility to His Wife Love: • How many times does Ephesians 5 tell the husband to love his wife? FOUR TIMES • How are men to love their wives? "...just as Christ also loved the CHURCH and gave HIMSELF for her..." Marriage is a type of Christ and the Church.

  43. The Husband's Responsibility to His Wife Love: • Calvary lets us know that love is more than just an EMOTION, love is a SACRIFICE. • Our marriages must not be built upon the sands of SELFISH desires and unstable EMOTIONS, but upon bedrock LOVE.

  44. The Husband's Responsibility to His Wife Honor: • 1 Peter 3:7 tells the husband to HONOR his wife. • The word "honor" in verse 7 is the same Greek word translated "PRECIOUS" in 1 Peter 1:19 speaking of the "precious" blood of Jesus.

  45. The Husband's Responsibility to His Wife Honor: • Proverbs 31:10 tells us the worth of a virtuous wife is "... Far above RUBIES."  • What can happen if the husband does not treat his wife tenderly and honor her as joint-heir of the grace of life? HIS PRAYERS MAY BE HINDERED

  46. The Wife's Responsibility to Her Husband Two key words sum up the New Testament teaching of the wife's responsibility to her husband.   • SUBMISSION • RESPECT

  47. The Wife's Responsibility to Her Husband SUBMISSION: A wife's PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY is to give of herself, her time and her energy to her husband, children and home.

  48. Parent-Child Responsibilities Two key word sum up the New Testament teaching of the child's responsibility to his parents. • OBEY • HONOR

  49. Parent-Child Responsibilities Obey: • Ephesians 6:1 says that children are to OBEY their parents in the Lord for this is RIGHT. • Colossians 3:20 tells us that GOD is pleased when children obey their parents.

  50. Parent-Child Responsibilities Obey: • Romans 1:30 lists disobedience to parents as one of the characteristics of a REPROBATE. • 1 Samuel 15:23 compares rebellion to the sin of WITCHCRAFT and stubbornness as INIQUITY AND IDOLATRY.
