  2. Need of this Course • Financial literacy refers to the set of skills and knowledge that allows an individual to make informed and effective decisions through their understanding of finance. Financial Literacy is important to help individuals to meet their life’s goals and objectives. • The aim of the course is to educate learners on simple concepts of personal finance. The course would cover in simple language topics such as income, taxation, expenditure, savings & investment avenues, borrowing, managing risk, budgeting etc. Participants would also learn about various financial institutions and in what ways they can benefit from these institutions. The course will help participants to become aware of different products through which they can meet their financial needs and finally educate them about the benefits of prudent financial behaviour.

About the course • 14 modules covering 14 different topics of personal day-to-day finances. • Total duration of the course is 2 months with 1 hour daily for each module (20 minute of learning, 20 minute of exercise & 20minute for test). • Mode of learning is completely e-learning with high quality digital content and voice narration. • A case-study based approach is used to relate to individual financial problems. • Course is targeted to students, working professionals and anyone who feels the need for managing personal finance.

SYLLABUS The course consists of fourteen modules on various aspects of day-to-day finance, as mentioned below: • Salary • Business Income and Agricultural Income • Taxation and Expenditure • Banks • Post Office • Interest Income • Debt • Equity and Mutual Funds • Other Investments and Retirement Planning • Loans • Taking a home loan • Risk • Insurance • Budgeting

  5. Topics covered • Salary and its related information like difference between income and revenue. • Forms and categories of businesses, ways to start, fund and run a business. Difference between business income and agricultural income. • Knowledge about taxes and basic tax planning. • Working of banks and best ways of using the facilities and services of banks. • Post office as an investment avenue, with information on Term deposits, NSC, PPF, etc. • Interest income, simple and compound interest, power of compounding, etc. • Investing in Debt Market, terms used like yield and maturity, and its assessment.

Topics covered • Basic knowledge about investing in stock market through equity and mutual funds. • Information about retirement planning and using other investment avenues for retirement planning. • Personal and home loans are covered, concepts like EMI, interest, durations, and the relationship among them is discussed in detail • How to manage risk and take calculated risks for maximizing returns. • Detailed information about insurance is covered. Topics like need, policy, premium, types of insurance and claim process are explained. • Budgeting and its importance with example is included for benefit of every individual.

Examination Pattern Module wise Objective Tests • A simple objective test of about 20 questions related to the module will be taken after the completions of the module. • Passing in each test is expected for the Learner so as to ensure the complete learning. The learner may opt to revise the content before re-appearing the test. • Learner is expected to solve all the tests in form of objective questions and/or exercises given in the handbook using his/her ERA login at the WAVE - Authorized Learning Center (ALC) in which he/she has been enrolled.

Examination Pattern Supervised Final Online Examination • Supervised Final Online Examination shall be conducted at each WAVE - Authorized Learning Center (ALC) under the supervision of MKCL’s Tehsil Lead Center (TLC) / Ward Lead Center (WLC) representative. • Supervised Final Online Examination shall comprise of an Objective test. • Final Exam would comprise of supervised Objective Examination of 30 Minutes Duration & carrying 50 marks • Long Assignment/Scenario based Question of 1 Hour duration & carrying 50 marks
