The Assurance of Providence: A Reflection on God's Faithfulness

In times of trouble and uncertainty, when friends fail and dangers loom, we find comfort in the unwavering promise that "The Lord will provide." This reflection, inspired by the verses from John Newton, reminds us that despite the storms of life and the tempests we face, our safety rests in God's grace. With Him as our strong tower and presence by our side, we are assured that we will not be lost. Trust in His word empowers us to face life's challenges with hope and strength, reinforcing the belief that regardless of circumstances, God will always provide for us.

  1. [1st of 4 verses]4041 Though troubles assail, and dangers affright, though friends should all fail, and foes all unite, yet one thing secures us, whatever betide: the Scripture assures us: The Lord will provide.2 We may, like the ships, by tempest be tossed on perilous deeps, but cannot be lost; though satan enrages the wind and the tide, the promise engages: The Lord will provide.

  2. 3 No strength of our own, or goodness, we claim; yet, since we have known the Saviour’s great name, in him, our strong tower, for safety we hide; the Lord is our power: The Lord will provide.4 Though life sink apace, and death be in view, this word of his grace shall comfort us through; his presence possessing, with him on our side, we feel the great blessing: The Lord will provide.John Newton 1725-1807
