  3. Why Blood tests ? very ill high fever infection in other areas

  4. What is blood tests? CBC WBC Normal or abnormal High or low The reasons

  5. WBC indicate: infectious diseases inflammatory disease may indicate: bone marrow failure shift to the left Normal values: WBC: 4,500 to 10,000 cells/mcl Note: cells/mcl = cells per microliter Leukocytosis leukopenia

  6. Causes of leukocytosis

  7. ESR measures how much inflammation is in the body. RBC descending Normal Results Adults (Westergren method): - Men under 50 years old: less than 15 mm/hr - Men over 50 years old: less than 20 mm/hr - Women under 50 years old: less than 20 mm/hr - Women over 50 years old: less than 30 mm/hr Children (Westergren method): - Newborn: 0 to 2 mm/hr - Newborn to puberty: 3 to 13 mm/hr Note: mm/hr. = millimeters per hour

  8. Fibrinogen, antigen or immunoglobulins in inflammation Leads to RBCs fall more rapidly, the ESR

  9. Stack of RBC = Rouleaux
