  14. CELDi Basic Research Proposals Industrial Advisory Board Member Recommended Topic • 1) Multiple facilities are producing/supplying products which must be retrieved from a vehicle based at a a central depot/location, then returned to the same originating destination. A fixed number of vehicles are available to retrieve the goods, each of which has its own type, capacity, speed, etc. The problem's objective is to retrieve the requested demand of goods with minimum miles traveled by the vehicle fleet, subject to vehicle hour maximums as defined by the US Department of Transportation. Submitted by Steve Iseler at Cobb-Vantress and Scott Mason, University of Arkansas • 2) Perform research to determine availability of test apparatus to update or replace DAC Shipboard Transportation Simulator. Propose various concepts for Modern Transportation Simulator to consolidate all TP 94-01 Transportability Testing Requirements onto one test platform driven by digital data characterizing actual transport environments experienced during Worldwide ammunition distribution. Thrust Area: Logistics Systems Analysis and Design Submitted by Jerry Beaver, Defense Ammunition Center, Validation Engr. Division • 3)  This research proposes a Supply/Value Chain "Best Practices" investigation and documentation after a segmentation of the topic into the following areas; supplier relations, transportation, inventory management, warehousing/distribution, customer relations, information technologies. Each year, two of these areas will be researched in detail, looking at award winning organizations/companies, and those that are cited in trade magazines/journals as being best in what they do, also gleaning best practices from various reputable annual surveys, and tapping into information that is available on a fee basis from consulting companies. The deliverable will be an annual report citing best practices by various subcategories, and the reputable sources of information. Alternatively, each year, all areas may be researched, and value-adding information added to each segment for three consecutive years. Submitted by B. M. Pulat, University of Oklahoma  Fall 2003 Industrial Advisory Board Meeting
