A Report on the General Ordination Examination Process
In your evaluation of a candidate, how important is each of the following?
What alternative methods of assessment would you consider using?
Do you support church-wide standards for academic subject matter for the ordinands’ education?
The bishops of the GBEC, with the assistance of seminary representatives, draft a set of academic standards for presentation to the HOB spring 2011 meeting. • The HOB pass a mind-of-the-house resolution supporting these standards at its fall 2011 meeting.
The GBEC present a set of proposed canonical changes to the Standing Commission on Ministry Development in the fall of 2011 that would: • Authorize the GBEC to prepare a General Ordination Examination that will be administered at seminaries and diocesan locations, and prepare background material for use by the dioceses. • Authorize the evaluation of the GOE by diocesan (or regional) examining chaplains.
