  1. Welcome to 7th Grade ScienceMonica Crowdermcrowd@kyrene.org A little bit about me: • Goal is to inspire children to want to continue learning and participating in science. • 26years in Education • Lived in Ahwatukee since 1991 • I LOVE SCIENCE! • BS in Elementary Education, Minor in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls • MS in Elementary Education, “Science Specialist” option from ASU

  2. Your child’s schedule looks like this (very confusing!) Here’s how you read it and where you will be going next…

  3. (zeros aren’t permitted) Assigned by teachers for missing assignments Every Wednesday afterschool from 2:00-3:30 Parents will be notified ahead of time & will need to pick up child promptly at 3:30

  4. All Year: Inquiry Process This is a “thinking class” and not just a “memorizing class”. Critically analyze media Formulate questions based on observations that will lead to a hypothesis and be able to refine a hypothesis Communicate data, results and information Design a controlled investigation Keep accurate records Identify trends Perform accurate measurements Write clear step by step directions Locate and select appropriate resources Determine validity

  5. How am I graded? • 20% class/home work * • 80% assessments (quiz, test, finished product such as lab or project.) I recommend checking grades online weekly. *Homework would primarily be completing or “polishing” work from class. Keeping a science notebook is essential to your success.

  6. First Quarter: Ecology • Food Chains • Ecosystems • Environmental Factors • Living Organisms • Identify Trends

  7. First Quarter: Astronomy Second Quarter: Space • Great Solar System Rescue@ • Phases of the Moon • Relative positions of Earth, Sun & Moon (Partial solar eclipse on Aug 21st at 10:33am) • Relationship between tides & moon • Seasons • Visible Constellations • Sun’s structure: • Layers • Production of Energy • Electromagnetic Spectrum

  8. Third & Fourth Quarter: Geology • Classify rocks & minerals, Rock Cycle • Layers of the earth (core, mantle, crust) • Erosion & Deposition • Fossils

  9. Plate Tectonics • Convection Currents • Mountain Building • Faults • Earthquakes

  10. All Year: History of Human Endeavor • Identify diverse people who have contributed to science • Major milestones in science and technology • Analyze the use of technology • Apply scientific method

  11. Introducing… An app to recognize and reward positive behavior!

  12. What is LiveSchool? • An easy-to-use app to track points, • demerits, and comments • A way to share information between teachers, • administrators, and parents • A token economy system for behavior rewards • that students purchase with their points!

  13. Parent Information Survey
