  5. Changes for the summer term • Guided reading, phonics and areas time to be shared times with teaching across Reception and Year 1. • This practice is already in place in school with classes 1 and 2 sharing areas and a staff team. This is also happening at other schools locally and works well. • Reception children will benefit from having older role models to support their transition into Year 1 and Year 1 children will be given the responsibility of developing their learning by explaining and modelling to others.

  15. Practicalities in Reception Assessment and reporting to parents A detailed handover will take place between Mrs Harrison and Mrs Gibbons. Mrs Gibbons will then take over the assessment with the Foundation Stage team. Mrs Harrison will feedback to parents at parents’ evening this term and Mrs Gibbons will write the final report.

  16. Practicalities in Reception Positive relationships Mrs Gibbons already knows the children and will spend time in Reception over the next 3 weeks. The children already have strong relationships with the support staff who work in Reception. Routines Mrs Gibbons works in a very similar way to Mrs Harrison so the children won’t notice too many changes other than those that are part of the usual transition from Reception to Year 1 in the summer term.

  17. Practicalities in Year 1 Assessment and reporting to parents A detailed handover will take place between Mrs Gibbons and Mrs Bhogal. Mrs Hopkins will continue to teach in Year 1 as well as Mrs Murphy, all of whom contribute to the assessment of children.
