  3. S L A I N L A M B STUDY Text 2 Timothy 4:1-12. KJB

  4. S L A I N L A M B STUDY Text 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 1 I charge [thee] therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:1-12. KJB 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith: 4 And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 9 Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: 12 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.

  5. S L A I N L A M B SUB Text 1 John 2:12-17. KJB

  6. S L A I N L A M B SUB Text 13 …I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. 14 …I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 15 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1 John 2:12-17. KJB 13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. … 12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. 14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. …

  7. S L A I N L A M B then Demas, finally forsook Apostle Paul when he needed him much, loving this present world, departed to Thessalonica. Thereafter, he had encounter with the Super supernatural on his way to Damascus in search for more Believers to persecute. The Demas spirit still roams within some Christians, causing some to turn their backs on the Christian Faith. Saul, at one time, was a great persecutor of the Christian Faith. However, Alexander the coppersmith did him much evil, He became example of the saying ‘the hunter became the hunted’. He became one of the Believers in Jesus Christ and was accepted into the house hold of Faith where he later worked with brethren like; Luke, Tychicus, Marcus, Aristarchus, Lucas, Onesimus, Epaphras, Archippus, Crescens, Titus, Alexander, and Demas.

  8. S L A I N L A M B Begins Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

  9. S L A I N L A M B ~ The Christian Faith~ 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:12-13 from its inception to this day, both by individuals, peoples, communities, governments, nations, 23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus; 24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. Philemon 1:23-24 but not limited to the physical, as the spiritual realm is also unleashing hatred on this Great Faith. However, few have proved their allegiance to this great Faith and few had died as martyrs. Act 14:22Confirming the souls of the disciples, [and] exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. The Christian Faith does demand we live godly in this present world, and this way of life comes with great persecutions. Matthew 10:22And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; To this, Demas could not endure but shifted his love for G-D to the world and abandoned Apostle Paul to which he was called a deserter. 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; There is no faith on Earth persecuted like the Christian Faith, 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, It is conceivable to say that on this backdrop Jesus made the statement in Matthew 10:22; and that Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, were his fellow labourers in Faith. Apostle Paul stood strong in his days of trials as a Believer in Christ but not alone as he testified that brother Epaphras was his fellow prisoner in Faith, Titus 2:11-13

  10. S L A I N L A M B ~ A Deserter~ The name means ‘popular’. Colossians 4:14Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. Philemon 1:24Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. He was here spoken of in Colossians 4:14 AD64, and Philemon 1:24 AD64, with commendation as one in whom Apostle Paul had confidence. This does not rule out the possibility that Demas was restored to faith, but that such claim is biblically disfavoured, therefore vague to rely on. Demas is mentioned three times in the Scriptures. However, some Bible scholars believed he deserted Paul and the faith but later was restored to the faith. 2 Timothy 4:10For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; …. He was a companion and fellow-labourer of Apostle Paul during his first imprisonment at Rome (Philemon 1:24; Colossians 4:14). 2 Timothy 4:10For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; …. Then about four years afterwards, when troubles thickened, he was not found faithful to the trials which threatened him in Rome, 2 Timothy 4:10 was the last mention of Dermas judging by the dates of each three books: This view sounds nice but lacks corroboration with the years of each latter that mentioned Demas: Colossians 4:14 -AD64, Philemon 1:24 - AD64, and 2 Timothy 4:10 -AD66/68. and he forsook Apostle Paul and went to Thessalonica about 66 or 68AD. Later, love for the world mastered him, and he deserted Paul.

  11. S L A I N L A M B ~ The Demas Spirit~ With the holiday seasons by the corner many would be travelling to destinations of their choices and some may end up loving this present world due to influences from someone or something alien to the Christian Faith. John 15:19If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. However, the statement, “…If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him,” looks ambiguous though, and have led to the misunderstanding of this phrase. The Christian Believer must of utmost importance follow Christ at all costs, pressure or not, persecutions or not, trials or not, the Believer must follow on, and finish good. this is contrary to the warning of 1 John 2:15 “Lovenottheworld, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. The word ‘fit’ in Luke 9:62is the Greek word ‘euthetos’ which means to be wellplaced, that is, appropriate tomeet or fit for the Kingdom. However, the Demas spirit would always present excuses to engage worldly activities, thereby discontinuing with G-D’s vineyard work. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Romans 5:8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if [any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. We may be quick to judge Demas but simply forgot that the fault of any man is in every man, … just a matter of time. 61And another also said, Lord,I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. It simply means that the one who loves the world must have discountenance with the love for G-D for the world, However, some draw back to the world like Demas and are called deserters: herein is the Demas spirit manifest today. It is evident that when a Believer leaves the Faith the first observable trait to blame would be love for the world. 60Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 59And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition;but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. G-D’s love for the sinner is unconditional therefore ever loves to give Christ to death. To this Paul reflects G-D’s displeasure and disavows the Believer loving the world. and not that the love G-D had for such person was withdrawn by G-D for loving the world. This is exactly the same Demas spirit G-D does not want to see in His children. Jesus’ narrative in Luke 9:59-62 is vivid example of Demas spirit in operation, Some have thought that, though Demas forsook Paul, yet did not forsake Christ; This was exactly Demas’ nature towards Kingdom work: he forsook it for the world. Demas had lost the love he once had for the Father according to verse 15. Hebrews 10:38-39 Luke 9:59-62

  12. S L A I N L A M B the Believer is advised to come back intact and not drop Jesus behind. However, the Christian Faith disavows a deserter and abhors vehemently this Demas spirit. and run the Christian race effectively ignoring all worldly dung to win Christ at last. Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Philippians 3:8Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ, Many who have made a great figure in the Christian profession, and have gained a great name among Christians, have yet shamefully apostatized: Every Believer must of necessity stay away from every sin so not to be beset irrespective of holidays and travelling, With the holidays almost around and much travelling to enjoy the seasons with families and loved ones this sadly reminds us the words of 1 John 2:19, ‘They went forth from us, because they were not of us,’ (loved ones excludes sin partners) If we met Demas in his day he certainly would have reasons for deserting Christ for the world. (Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, …). The seasons affords the Believer a great opportunity to share the Christian Faith with loved ones and lead them to accepting Christ as Saviour and Lord of their lives.
