Tennessee Students. Depend. On. Volunteered Funds!. 40 Identified Nashville as a state. Onle 10 could name a President from our state. 7 knew of a historical event that took place in our state. 5 knew the kinds or names of state geographical features.

  1. Tennessee Students Depend On Volunteered Funds!

  2. 40 Identified Nashville as a state. Onle 10 could name a President from our state. 7 knew of a historical event that took place in our state. 5 knew the kinds or names of state geographical features. Only 30 could locate Tennessee on a map. Only a few could identify 1 of our many state symbols. Did You Know... That in a survey of 100 students at Murrell School And the list goes on.

Just How Important Is This Missing Knowledge? • Tennessee facts are included in State and District standards at all grades. • Knowledge of Tennessee geography, history, politics, natural resources, and culture generalize outwards to standards covering a wide variety of Social Studies standards. • Good citizenship begins with a sense of belonging. • Students cannot begin learning their place and role in the world without a knowledge of where they are. • Developing a sense of community is essential to personal growth, and a sense of responsibility to others. • Tennessee resources were the number one most requested items on the Teacher Survey.

  4. ..district adopted TEXTBOOKS contain on average, less than 2 pages devoted to Tennessee knowledge? Would You Be Shocked To Know That... ..textbooks with a special Tennessee addition only devote on average 7 pages? ..our School Library contains only 4 non-fiction titles, 2 folktale titlesand 1 reference title related to Tennessee?

Nonfiction titles on Tennessee Titles about Tennessee Presidents Fiction, Nonfiction, and Reference related to Nashville General geography titles help that students develop an understanding of their location in the world Information about Tennessee’s Native People Titles on Tennessee’s part in important historical events Fiction, Nonfiction, and Folklore related to Tennessee’s important landforms

Funding Is the Question. • The average yearly allotment for the Murrell Library is $305.00 • Purchasing decisions must meet demands for resources in many areas. • At an average cost of $26.00 for a hardbound book, only one or two Tennessee titles can be purchased while maintaining demand in other areas. • An $780.00 allotment towards Tennessee knowledge resources would purchase 30 books. • The proposal is to allot $260.00 a year for the next three years to reach the 30 title goal.   7. Learning Begins At Home Provide additional funds to the school library to ensure that students begin their learning about the world right here at home in Tennessee.
