2. Smart Goal By the end of the school improvement cycle in 2011, students in K-5 will increase their reading proficiency levels 4% points each year as measured by state assessments. Results K-2 students were 90.1% proficient. (-3.1%) 3-5 students were 78.4% proficient. (+16.62%) Next Steps The media coordinator will work collaboratively with grade levels to support literacy and writing skills. The Daily 5 structure for literacy differentiation will be implemented in various classrooms PLCs will be used to plan differentiated activities and students will be clustered with similar needs School Goal: Improve student achievement in all curricular areas and close the achievement gap in reading, writing, and math so no child is left behind.

Smart Goal: By the end of the 2008-2009 school year, students in K-5 will participate in the new writing model and increase their writing proficiency levels 4% points on local and/or state assessments. Results K-2 students were 87% proficient (+9%) 3 and 5 students were 90.1% proficient (+4%) Students in 4th grade were 92.5% proficient (+4.5%) Next Steps Continue with the implementation of the writing system PLCs will be used to plan differentiated activities and to cluster students with similar needs Grade level/span scoring to promote consistency and to serve as professional development in writing School Goal: Improve student achievement in all curricular areas and close the achievement gap in reading, writing, and math so no child is left behind.

Results 3-5 students were at 87.2% proficiency (+15.7%) Next Steps Develop and administer common formative assessments quarterly Develop and update curriculum pacing maps using Rubicon Atlas PLC grade level and vertical planning Cluster grouping across grade levels and co-teaching Identify professional development needs. Provide research based, effective interventions to aide every child in meeting AYP. 5. Smart Goal: By the end of the school improvement plan cycle in 2011, students in K-5 will increase their science proficiency levels 4% points each year as measured by local and state assessments. Results 5th grade students were 73.91% proficient (+10.7%) Next Steps Administer ClassScape science assessments at least quarterly School Goal: Improve student achievement in all curricular areas and close the achievement gap in reading, writing, and math so no child is left behind.

Smart Goal By the end of the school improvement cycle in 2011, students in the EC and Black subgroup in grades 3-5 will increase their proficiency levels 5% points each year as measured by state EOGs. Results 3-5 EC students were 47.2% proficient (+7.2%) 3-5 Black students were 77.8% proficient (+41.8%) Next Steps Plan math SCOS objectives following the pacing guide of Envisions, our county wide adopted math text PLCs will be used to plan differentiated activities and cluster students with similar needs School Goal: Improve student achievement in all curricular areas and close the achievement gap in reading, writing, and math so no child is left behind.

7. Smart Goal: By the end of the school improvement plan cycle in 2011, 80% of our teachers will indicate a positive rating in the area of professional development teacher support. Results Strategies were implemented regularly 76.19% of teachers responded that CES principal provided “for a results-oriented professional development that is aligned with 21st century and school improvement goals and is a differentiated based on staff need” through a survey given in May 2009 (+10.2%) Next Steps Participate in on-line professional development as often as possible so not to be negatively impacted by budget constraints Continue with strategies from last year and update timelines in SIP School Goal: To provide support for teachers

8. Smart Goal By the end of the school improvement plan cycle in 2011, 80% of our teachers will indicate that leadership addressed concerns about facilities and resources. Results 76.20% of survey participants for survey on CES Principal affirmed that the principal either very often or always ensures the allocation and use of resources to meet instructional goals and support teacher needs. (+21.2) Strategies were implemented regularly. We celebrate success with students and staff as often as possible. Next Steps Continue to use the SIT as often as possible to aide in the allocation and use of instructional funding and to address concerns about facilities Continue with strategies School Goal: To provide a safe, orderly and caring environment for teaching and learning

9. Smart Goal By the end of the school improvement plan cycle in 2011, 70% of our parents will feel they have a voice when results are given for the Title I parent survey. Results The results of a survey given to CES Title I parents in May of 2009 indicate that 85.7% of parents felt they are listened to when they make suggestions about their child’s education (+58%) Next Steps Incorporate more Family Involvement Nights (workshops) in the areas of Language Arts and Math. Four are planned for the 09-10 school year. Use the CES listserv on a regular basis as another means of keeping parents informed Continue to solicit volunteers Smart Goal: To increase parental, community and business partnerships

10. Smart Goal: By the end of the school improvement plan cycle in 2011, 100% of our teachers will indicate that they have sufficient access to instructional technology. Results Technology survey revealed that limited computer/equipment availability was not an obstacle to integrating more technology in instruction. All of the applicable respondents indicated that they integrated technology into instruction several times a week. Most of the respondents integrated technology several times daily. Next Steps Use our technology facilitator to work with teachers to integrate technology into instruction, as well as, education web sites. Teachers will also be encouraged to share how they are integrating during staff meetings. School Goal: To establish and maintain a positive climate conducive to teaching and learning
