Gates County SchoolsTransportationMission Statement Recognizing the safe transportation of students as this department’s primary responsibility, it is therefore, our mission to provide safe, dependable, and efficient transportation as a support service, designed to enhance the educational opportunities of all school age children.

  2. Efficiency – Budget Rating # of Students / # of Buses = Average load $ spent / # Students transported = Average Cost per pupil Efficiency + 10% = Budget Rating

  3. Gates County Simulated Data2010-2011 *Counts are adjusted by DPI to level the playing field for all counties regardless of size or student population.

  4. How to manipulate the data Encourage students to ride during the ridership week. (September 24 – 28, 2012) Re-evaluate the number of buses before the 91st day of school. As drivers quit determine if the bus is needed. Even if the bus is parked after the 91st day you still save dollars.

  5. Drug Testing Types of Testing • Pre-Employment • Reasonable Suspicion • Post Accident (All accidents with more than $200 damage) • Random – 50% of all employees in safety sensitive jobs Drugs Tested For • Marijuana • Cocaine • Amphetamines • Opiates • Phencyclidine (PCP) • Ecstasy • Heroin

Alcohol Testing • Reasonable Suspicion • Post Accident (When law enforcement request) • Random – 10% of all employees in safety sensitive jobs • A alcohol test of 0.02 or greater the driver will be removed from duty for 24 hours. • A result of 0.04 or greater will result in the employee begin removed until evaluated by a substance abuse professional.

  7.   8. Good News • A second camera has been installed on all buses this summer. • A extra memory card was put in each schools box. • We had a second inspection from DPI prior to the end of school. Our score improved by 76 points. • All mechanics are certified school bus inspectors.
