  1. The RSF ideaWen-Chau Lee, Vivek, John Hubbert and Tammy Weckwerth • EOL’s strength: • Mesoscale process studies related to climate, • Data integration and archive; • EOL’s weakness: • Long-term observing capability, • Linkage with climate community;

  2. Science/Facility Priorities • Water cycle/hydrology process studies • Improvement/Validation on parameterization schemes (e.g. boundary layer, cumulus, cloud microphysics, etc) • Distribution of water vapor on convection initiation (e.g., MSU DIAL observations, water vapor mapping/tomography, integrated water vapor, refractivity, S-Ka band water vapor retrieval) • Influence of aerosol on cloud and micrphysical processes and radiation (HSRL, HCR and FRONT) • Relationship between weather and changing ecosystems: CIRMOUNT (mountain climate consortium)

  3. First Step, Quick Wins • Complete and supplement FRONT • Additional (10-15) GPS receivers ($100-150K) • MSU H2O Dial network ($500K) • Scanning HCR and semi-scanning HSRL • Explore the use of MTP (microwave temperature profiler?) for ground-based temperature profiling applications • Reach out to other groups • ARM • CIRMOUNT
