  2. Where Did They All Come From? Doctrines and Denominations! LUKE 20:4-7 “The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not? But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. IT IS OUR UNDERSTANDING… • THAT THE TRUE CHURCH HAS ALREADY BEEN IDENTIFIED BY GOD. • THAT DEMONINATIONS ARE NOT PLEASING TO GOD. • THAT DENOMINATIONS ARE THE WORKS OF MEN. • THAT DENOMINATIONS ARE SATANS DECEPTION TO APPEAL TO MAN’S NATURE OF BEING IN CONTROL. • THAT DENOMINATIONS CANNOT BE THE CHURCH OF THE NEW TESTAMENT. • THAT THE NEW TESTAMENT CAN BE IDENTIFIED TODAY THUS We MUST: • IDENTYFY THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH TODAY! STOP AND INVESTIGATE

  4. JESUS SAID THAT HE WOULD BUILD HIS CHURCH – Mt. 16:18 • “Upon this rock…”--- That Christ is the Son of God…. Romans 1:1-6 • It is the foundation that was laid --- 1Cor. 3:11 • Jesus is: • The Purchaser --- Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Rev. 5:9-10 • The Builder --- Matt. 16:18 • The Head --- Eph. 5:23 • The Lawgiver --- Acts 2:36 • Savior of the Body --- Eph. 5:23 • CAN YOU SAY THAT JESUS IS THE FOUNDER OF YOUR DENOMINATION???

JESUS IS THE HEAD OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH • Christ is Head Over the Body/Church • Col. 1:18 --- He Is Head Over the Body… • Eph. 1:18-23 --- “Head over all things to the church…” • Eph. 4:15-16 --- “unto Him who is the head…” • Christ Has ALL AUTHORITY: • Matt. 28:18 --- “all authority has been given…” • John 5:21-23 --- “all judgment given to the Son.” • Hebrews 4:14-16 --- “Jesus is our heavenly Priest” • IS JESUS CHRIST THE HEAD OF YOUR DENOMINATION?

Church Originated in Jerusalem • A.D. 33 – The Day of Pentecost – Acts 2 • Prophesied in the Old Testament: • Joel 2:28,32 --- Fulfilled in Acts 2 • Isa. 2:2-3 ---- Fulfilled in Acts 2 • Daniel 2:40,44 --- Fulfilled in Acts 2 • Jeremiah 31:31-34 --- Fulfilled in Acts 2 • Thus The church came into existence when: • The Apostles where still alive --- Mark 9:1 • And When the Word Went forth from Jerusalem --- see above. • Can We Identify this With Certainty? • Mark 9:1 --- Kingdom to come with power • Acts 1:8 --- Power to Come With The Holy Spirit • Acts 2:1-4 --- Holy Spirit Came on the Day of Pentecost • DID YOUR DENOMINATION ORIGINATE IN JERUSALEM IN THE YEAR A.D. 33?

  7. THE TERMS OF ENTRANCE INTO THE N.T. Church! • It’s Membership comprises those who: • Hear the word of the gospel --- Rom 10:17; Acts 18:8 • Believe the gospel --- Acts 18:8; 1 Cor. 1:2 • Repent of their sins --- Acts 2:38 • Confess the Christ --- Acts 8:37; Rom. 10:10 • Are Baptized: • Buried in baptism --- Rom 6:4; Col 2:12 • In Water --- Acts 8:36-39; 10:47, 48 • To Wash Away Sins --- Acts 22:16 • For The remission of Sins --- Acts 2:38 • To be Saved --- 1 Peter 3:21 • Into Christ --- Gal. 3:27 • Into the Body, the church --- 1 Cor. 12:13 • ARE THESE THE CONDITIONS THAT YOU MET IN YOUR DENOMINATION???

THE WORSHIP OF THE NEW TESTAMENT Church! • “It is done in Spirit and Truth” • The Lord’s Supper --- 1 Cor. 10:16; Acts 20:7 • Singing --- Eph 5:18-19; Col. 3:16 • Praying --- Acts 2:42; 1 Thess. 5:17; 25 • Giving --- 1 Cor. 16:1-2; 2 Cor. 9:7 • Teaching --- Acts 2:42; 1 Tim. 3:15 • Whatever, is not found in the N.T. church worship is not of the Lord!

  9. THE WORK OF THE N.T. Church • The Primary Work of the N.T. Is in the mission of Christ of seeking and Saving Souls: • Preaching of the gospel --- 1 Thess 1:8; 2 Cor. 11:8; Phil. 4:14-18 • Edifying itself --- Eph. 4:11-16 • Providing for its needy --- Acts 4:34-35; 6:1-7; 1 Tim. 5:16 • THE SOCIAL GOSPEL WAS NEVER A PART OF THE N.T. CHURCH!!!

NO DOCTRINE OTHER THAN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST… • The N.T. church had no doctrine but the N.T. • Christ was the lawgiver --- Eph. 4:17-16; 5:24 • The Holy Spirit is the Revealer --- 1 Cor. 2:13; Eph. 3:1-6 • The Apostles teaching is the manual --- Acts 2:42; Eph. 2:30 • NO CREEDS, DECREES BY MEN, COUCILS, SYNODS ETC. in The N.T. Church

  11. No Organization Other Than The N.T. Standard • Universal: • Jesus the ONLY HEAD: • Acts 14:23; 1 Peter 5:4; 2:25 • Congregational: • Bishops/Elders/Pastors --- Acts 20:17, 28; 1 Pet. 5:2-4; 1 Tim. 3:1-7 ; Phil. 1:1; Heb. 13:17 • These feed, tend, oversee, and rule over the flock among them. • Deacons --- 1 Tim 3:8-13 • With members/saints who minister in word and deed --- 1 Cor. 12:24-27 • FROM WHERE DID YOUR DENOMINATIONS ORGANIZATION ORIGINATE???

  12. THE GOVERNMENT OF THE N.T. Church • The Government is: • Absolute Monarchy • JESUS CHRIST IS KING of KINGS and LORD OF LORD’S. • In Heaven is Its Head --- Eph. 1:19-21; 4:8-10 • From Heaven Came the Law --- Eph. 1:22; 4:11-16; Rom 8:2 • THERE IS NO ROOM FOR DEMOCRACY IN THE CHURCH OF THE N.T.

Church • Christ Called It: • My Church --- Matt. 16:18 • My Kingdom --- Luke 22:30; John 18:36 • The Kingdom of Heaven --- Matt 16:19 • The Kingdom of God --- John 3:5; Luke 22:16 • The Apostles Called It: • The church --- Col 1:18; Eph. 1:22; 3:10; 5:23-32 • The church of God --- 1 Cor. 1:2; Gal. 1:13 • Churches of Christ --- Rom. 16:16 • House of God --- 1 Tim 3:15 • Household of Faith --- Gal 6:10 • Kingdom of God --- Acts 28:23, 31 • Kingdom of his Dear Son --- Col 1:13 • Kingdom Which Cannot Be Shaken --- Heb 12:28 • IS YOUR DENOMINATION FOUND IN THE NEW TESTAMENT???
