This lesson introduces the basic building blocks of geometry—points, lines, and planes—through interactive classroom activities. Students will identify three objects that represent each geometric figure: a point, a line segment, an angle, a line, and a plane. By engaging with geometric definitions and visualizations, learners will grasp the significance of undefined terms in geometry and the concepts of collinearity and coplanarity. Through practical examples, students will build a solid foundation in understanding geometric figures.

Quick Warm-Up • Find three objects in the classroom that can be represented by each geometric figure. • Point • Line Segment • Angle • Line • Plane
The Basics • Most basic figures of geometry are: • Points • Lines • Planes • Often referred to as undefined terms • Not defined in terms of other figures
Points • Often shown as dots • Unlike physical dots, geometric points have no size • Named by capital letters such as A or X
Lines • A geometric line has no thickness, is perfectly straight, and extends forever • Can be named 2 different ways
Planes • Extend infinitely in all directions along a FLAT surface • Examples: top of your desk, the front of your textbook • Can be named 2 different ways
Collinear & Coplanar • If a single line can contain all points • Any two points are collinear. • Points that can be contained by a single plane. • Any three points are coplanar
