  2. Section 1 Title: Oregon Country Main Idea: By the 1840s, thousands of pioneers followed in the footsteps of fur traders and missionaries to settle in the fertile lands of the Oregon Country. Fact: Region claimed by U.S., Britain, Spain, & Russia

  3. Section 2 Title: The Republic of Texas Main Idea: In 1835, American settlers in Texas revolted against Mexican rule and won their independence in 1836. (Later annexed by U.S. in 1845.) Fact: Mexico feared Texas would break away in 1830
