  2. What is indoctrination? • Brainwashing • Twisting of words • Propaganda

  3. Define free thought • Ability to interpret ideas according to your own experiences. • Access to multiple resources in order to obtain information. • Education whose purpose is to lead the student to their own path of discovery.

  10. Is indoctrination used at NSJHS? We are going on a field trip!!!! You will need to bring a writing tool and a notebook. On our tour of NSJHS you are looking for evidence of indoctrination. Look for signs, posters & images that are there to influence the behavior and thinking of students. Record you evidence in your notebook.

  11. Look at ways to manipulate the intent of the words. How are Major’s words manipulated in Animal Farm to suit the new leadership? How can the propaganda you noted from school be manipulated to sound negative? • List 3 examples from the novel. • Choose one sign, poster, image to manipulate into being seen as a negative message.

  12. Sum it Up In your writer’s notebook write about… How do words influence your life? How are you using language as a tool in your own life? Do you use words to get what you want? Give some examples.
