  1. Wiki Assignment #2 • 1. Describe the circumstances in which you encountered the “everyday works of art” i.e. where, when, how etc…how it came to be that you encountered or selected this item.

  2. Circumstances for 1st “everyday work of art” • Wordle - Daily Stress(Click on sample of Life) • The 1st “everyday day work of art” that I chose was Chincoteague Pony Prints. • The prints were given to my children as a gift from my sister. They represent vacations we took when we were children. • I dust them regularly and never actually really pay attention to them until I read the Booth text.

  3. How I came to select this item • I selected this item because I found my self after reading the text, actually looking at the prints really for the first time the detail that the artist put into the prints with such care and detail. It was a though I was a child again on vacation all over again. I was stopped from by busy life and took a moment to read the world around me instead of having the 100 things running in my head. It was liberating.

  4. Why I chose this • As Booth states, “to look across your life in “as if” ways – most obviously, looking at the small events of your life as if they were important (because they are). • Thinking of this it is true the moments spent there were important and now are priceless shame on me for not looking at these prints further before but now I am happy to share with you!

  5. Kevin McBride “Pony Prints”

  6. Kevin McBride “Pony Prints”

  7. Kevin McBride Who Is He? • Masterpiece Online - McBride, Kevin (Click on) the Pony Penning prints these are just a few of the ones that I have • Kevin McBride Artist (Click on)

  8. Personal Experience That is my Grandmother, twin sister Michelle and I with Chincoteague Ponies we loved seeing the ponies when we were on summer vacation and loved interacting with them they were live art.

  9. Chincoteague Ponies • Pony Swim (Click on) • The Ponies swam across the channel from the island to Chincoteague for auction once a year to keep herd population in check. The proceeds help to maintain the herd. • Pony Video on the beach (Click on) Wonderful footage of the herd on the beach.

  10. Noticing & Perceptions • Texture in the print you can almost feel the grit of the sand. • The shadows of the horses • I never noticed the other horses in the background before WOW • The Broken snow fence • The children’s faces are less detailed showing them less important than the horses • I can almost smell the salt and hear the waves • Lots of use of Dark and Light

  11. My thoughts doing my Perceptions • I thought how unique these animals are • They are truly legionary and need to valued assets • How fortunate that I had the honor of meeting them • I feel stronger knowing how strong they are and how strong their own scense of family is • How important it is to stop and enjoy life and learn to experience “everyday works of art”

  12. Circumstances of 2nd “everyday work of art” • On My Mind While Driving Wordle (click on) • After reading Booth and looking for my assignment I was surprised to find that I had never noticed this little building that I have driven by, parked beside and walked past many times without even giving it a second thought well that is until now.

  13. How I came to select this item • “If something is interesting it is important enough to pursue” Booth pg.180 • I decided to attempt to read what I saw or interpret what I was considering art.

  14. Why I chose this • I have a natural curiousity towards old barns and country buildings. • What is there history, purpose and how well did they weather the storms and time since they have been built. • I find them beautiful and a work of art

  15. “The Hidden Shed”

  16. “The Hidden Shed”

  17. “The Hidden Shed”

  18. “The Hidden Shed”

  19. Noticing And Persceptions • Hidden • Texture • Rough • Dark • Broken • Used up • Seasons changing around it • Opens to a field maybe used for animals • Unloved needs TLC • Aged • Shadows

  20. My thoughts doing my perceptions • As I began exploring my new found shed I was excited for the adventure • “World-exploring is not analyzing or judging, perceiving is not interpreting. Explorations are playful interactions in which we become co-creators with the world maker” Booth pg. 205. • Some may not interpret this as beautiful but in the eye of the be holder I find it beautiful.

  21. Relates to Experiences • This shed brought back memories of my childhood as well which seems to be the common them. • My grandmother’s farm had a shanty, smokehouse and big old barn • The shed brought back memories of those wonderful days of running around with no cares at all.

  22. Grandma’s Barn

  23. More examples of barns • In Grandma barn and in the shed there is a lot of character that only time can place on the art the way weather textures the boards or the sun fades the colors. • When I drive back home to central PA I have the pleasure of seeing a lot of barns that I enjoy and I thought I would share them with you I hope that you enjoy they really are an “everyday work of art”

  24. Barns along the PA Turnpike

  25. Barns along the PA Turnpike

  26. Barns along the PA Turnpike

  27. Conclusion • I realize that I need to spend more time reading the world and exploring “everyday works of art” I really found out a lot of interesting things especially the things that I was missing because I was too busy. Lesson Learned! • As Booth states, “We dedicate too little of our time to explicit word exploring, an and we would benefit from more.” pg. 204
