  2. Economically • Pakistani economy grew at a fairly impressive rate of 6 percent per year through the first four decades of the nation's existence. In spite of rapid population growth during this period, per capita incomes doubled, inflation remained low and poverty declined from 46% down to 18% by late 1980s. • Crude oil production increased sharply in the 1980s, from almost 4.0 million barrels in FY 1982 to 22.4 million barrels in FY 1992. This increase was the result of the discovery and development of new oil fields. Despite this expanded production, however, about 28 million barrels of crude oil were imported annually in the early 1990s. The production from domestic oil refineries also rose in the 1980s • Germany-Pakistani Relations 1980 • The first woman prime minister of a muslim country in 1988.

FriehaAltaf, who worked as a model before becoming a choreographer and event planner, says “Fashion in the 1980s was over-the-top big hair, lace gloves, too much kajal and garish colour combinations.” • Designers such as Maheen Khan say that the 1980s was when fashion design really took off.
