GENSER VALIDATION

DESCRIPTION

This presentation outlines the current status and developments in Monte Carlo (MC) validation for the GENSER framework, focusing on its application in ATLAS and CMS Data Challenges. Key topics include basic sanity checks, physics checks, and the need for a robust validation framework. The discussion also covers new MC tools like AlpGen within GENSER, showcasing best practices for integration and automation. Furthermore, it highlights urgent requests and ongoing discussions regarding validation improvements and user-friendly mechanisms for community engagement.

  1. GENSER VALIDATION Filippo Ambroglini (Perugia)

  2. GENSER BETATested by ALL the experiment • ATLAS uses it for current Data Challenge production • CMS will probably use it in next Data Challenge ? (ongoing discussion) • test with fast simulation For more details about this topic see the next presentation LCG meeting

  3. GOAL of MC VALIDATION • Basic Sanity Checks • Physics Checks Validation framework needed • Candidate for • Physics Validation: • JetWeb • LCG-UK (U.C.London)contact person for LCG Generator: B.Waugh http://jetweb.hep.ucl.ac.uk/ Database of Data, MC & Comparisons, Web interface, Job submission Should switch soon to GENSER LCG meeting

  4. What to do for validation??? • for a NEW version of an already introduced package run available EXAMPLES & TESTS • if a NEW MC tool has to be introduced SOME “AD-HOC” WORK MAY BE NECESSARY (let’s try to profit of well experienced users) http://lcgapp.cern.ch/project/simu/generator/HIJING/ Urgent request (ALICE): bug fix • HIJING validation (V. Uzhinsky) LCG meeting

  5. What to do for AlpGen First ME MC tools introduced in GENSER NOT trivial put AlpGen inside GENSER need some trick to preserve the original code Small changes for the end users • GENSER way • go to examples dir • use the script create_gen.pl • whit scram make a exe file (test.exe) • run • Standard way • go to “Proc”work dir • create a exe file • run LCG meeting

  6. What to do for the Validation • Basic Sanity checks • compile • run and CPU time • # of events • Physics checks • cross sections • check of reference distributions (ttH channel ) LCG meeting

  7. VALIDATION RESULTS Standard parameters used • CTEQ6L1 • p-p interaction • 1000000 (200000 and 3 run) • 14 TeV CM Energy • default random number Let’s use default cuts from authors Keep this file for validation of next versions LCG meeting

  8. LCG meeting

  9. Physics Validation STANDARD GENSER LCG meeting

  10. Conclusion • AlpGen works fine inside GENSER • differences in time machine due to --ffast-math option omitted in GENSER • expected time improvement with F90 now implemented by A. Cherstnev LCG meeting

  11. To do list • Test the F90 • Automate the validation procedure for AlpGen • run it in a Validation framework • user friendly mechanism also for not experienced users LCG meeting
