  1. Do Now- Page 55 • At your table, examine the maps that show ethic populations in Boston. • Then answer the questions and paste it in your notebook on Page 55. • You may work with the people at your table. • You have 5 minutes!

Back on page 52- notesSettling in the city • 2/3 of immigrants settled in urban centers such as NYC, Boston, and Philadelphia • Creation of “ethnic enclaves” • Provided a sense of community and security • people of similar experiences • Stores with ethnic food, clothing, original language books and papers • Ethnic enclaves still exist today- and that is okay

  3. Announcement • Quiz on Friday- Study pages 44 and on in your notebook! • Last notebook check of the term is on Friday! Do not forget to hand it in! • Homework should be on page 53 and 54 (I made a typo on the handout)

  4. Round Robin Activity20 minutes • Get into your groups • You have five minutes with each placard. • As a group, pull out three main points about hardships for immigrants. • Fill your details in the appropriate column of your chart.

  5. On Page 44 of your notebook you will complete this chart during the round robin activity • You will have 5 minutes per placard!

  7. Processing- Bottom of Page 55 • Write an “American Letter” that you will send back to your family in your home country. Tell them about your travels and what your experience has been like so far. Include: • What country did you come from? • Explain your travels and processing at Ellis Island ) • Where do you live? What is your home and neighborhood like? • Do you have a job? What is it like?
