NCLD • Provides essential information to parents • Develops and delivers programs for early identification, intervention and support (such as the RTI Action Network) • Advocates for policies to strengthen and promote educational opportunities for all

Educationand LD • The majority of students identified with LD have their primary deficit in the area of reading • Males comprise almost two-thirds of school age students with LD (ages 6 to 17) • 59% of students with LD spent 80% or more of their in-school time in general education classrooms • Students with LD are retained in grade much more often than their peers

  6. Perspective on Education and Tech Funding • As part of the economic stimulus package passed last year, the US Dept of Education earmarked $650 million on top of the $257 million already budgeted for technology spending (Ed-Tech).

Education Funding • ARRA 2009 Funding: (over 2 years – must be obligated by 9-30-10) • $13 Billion – Title I • $12.2 Billion – IDEA • $400 Million – IDEA Part B Sec. 619 (pre-K) • $3 Billion – School Improvement Grants • $4.35 Billion – Race to the Top • $650 Million – Investing in Innovation • $350 Million – Data and Assessments Every state received a doubling of IDEA funds • Race to the Top:$4 Billion FY 2010, $1.35 Billion for FY 2011 • ESEA: 2.35 billion for pre-K to 12 literacy (pending S.2740 ) • Early Learning Challenge Grants: $600 million (pending)
