  2. Bellwork: Explain the difference between ascending and descending order when sorting records. Why would you need to sort records? Give examples. Weekly Goal Log Assignment: The student will review terms, take notes, and complete the on your own exercise on page 318.

  3. Learning Objective • By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to display an understanding of sorting records in a database in Excel by designing a database to track homes for sale and sorting it by square footage.

  4. Definitions • Ascending = A-Z, 1-100, Dates oldest to most recent • Descending = Z-A, 100-1, Dates most recent to oldest • Key – One level within a sort • You can sort on a maximum of three keys in a single sort

  5. What is the key for this sort?

  6. Sort with different keys • Last Name Ascending • Make the second key State • Make the third key City

  7. Assignment • On your own page 318 • Track homes for sale in your area • Find at least 15 homes • Enter them in the order that you find them • Sort them when you have all 15

  8. Closure • What are the steps for sorting records and give an example of why you would need to do a data sort in Excel.
