I come from Harlem, New York. Harlem is the livest hood in the world. We set the trends in fashion, music, and slang for hoods all over the country.
The Drug Game My family was poor, so I began working at an early age. But packing bags at the supermarket or working in the cleaners’ wasn’t making it. I dropped out in the 9th grade, and not long after that, I got into the drug game. Between the early 80’s and 90’s, I sold enough coke to make it snow in New York City.
Game Over! The character Tony Montana went from poor to mad rich by selling coke. He made tons of young cats want to sell cocaine too, including me. SCARFACE The major drug in Harlem at the time was Heroin. All that changed after the movie Scarface.
The PaperCha$e After watching Scarface, I wanted to be the Tony Montana of Harlem. I easily made more than $40,000 a week, and became a millionaire before reaching voting age. I was on a paper chase. Back then, I never left the house with less than $30,000 in my pockets. I also bought the hottest cars out.
Rich and ‘Po These were two of the cats I got down with in the drug game. Rich was my boy since were we kids, and I met Alpo several years later. Rich was the smoothest, coolest cat in the game. Alpo was a flashy, strong, no-nonsense soldier in the game. Rich Porter Alberto “Alpo” Martinez
In August of 1987, a brother that I hooked up with money, drugs, and a car tried to rob my stash house. I was shot 9 times, twice in the head. In 1989, Alpo killed Rich over a money dispute. Richs’ little brother Donnell was kidnapped, tortured and later killed in 1990. The culprit was Donnell’s own uncle. Donnell was only 12 years old! Tragedy Strikes 3 people, including my boy Charlie C. and my Aunt Joanne Blue were killed.
Mobstyle After all the tragedy I saw and experienced, God began speaking to me. He wanted me to make things right.In 1988, I created a rap group called Mobstyle. We were all former street hustlers using Hip Hop music to teach the truth about the streets and the drug game. I wish more rap artists today used their freedom of speech to talk about positive things instead of drugs, guns, sex, cars, and jewelry.
Making Movies My next projects involved movies because I knew they would reach young people. DVD cover of the movie Paid in Full which debuted in 2002.
