  5. Interact Interact is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service. It has… • more than 10,700 clubs in • 110 countries/geographical areas • 200,000 members plus

  6. Interact • is a service club for high school and/or middle school students ages 12-18. • needs both a Rotarian adviser and a faculty adviser for school-based clubs. • requires two meeting a month. (Participation in a project may count as a meeting make-up.)

  7. Rotaract Clubs

  8. Rotaract is… • a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. • either community or university based. • growing. There are more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries.

  9. Rotaract Opportunities • Address the communities’ physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace. • Assist in organizing Interact Clubs or in mentoring Interactors • Become Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars or Group Study Exchange team members

  10. Rotary Youth Exchange • Rotary Youth Exchange students can spend up to one school year living with host families and attending school in a different country. • Types of exchanges: • Short or long term exchanges • New Generations exchange

Short-term verses long-termExchanges • Ages for ST or LT: 15-19 years old • Duration: Typically lasts • ST: 3-6 weeks during a school break • LT: one school year • School: • ST: Not required to attend local high school; can include home stays, tours, and camps • LT: Must attend a local school and live with 1-3 host families

  12. New Generations Exchange • Ages: 18-25 • Duration: Three to six weeks • Ideal for recent secondary school graduates • Can include home stays, tours, camps, or specialized internships

  13. YX: Timeline • Applications from clubs for short and long-term exchanges are due to the District by December 1. • District submits approved applications to ESSEX by December 15. • Matching occurs in late December/early January.

  14. RYLPRotary Youth Leadership Program RYLA is Rotary’s leadership training program for young people 14-18.

  15. RYLP: The Basics • Who: 54 selected high school juniors and seniors in District 7690 • When: Third week of July • Where: Guilford College in Greensboro, NC • What: During the week-long program, students are exposed to a variety of different leadership styles and techniques

The RLYP Selection Process • Public and Private High Schools: • Principal gives approved applications to Rotarian • Sponsoring Rotary Club submits one Principal RYLP Nominee and one or more Alternate RYLP Nominees. • Home schooled students: • Self nominate on line at the Rotary District 7690 web site, http://tinyurl.com/RYLP2010 • The Rotary District 7690 RYLP Selection Committee will review all submitted applications. • All nominees who are selected to participate in the 2010 RYLP program will then be notified by email.

Rotary Against Drugs Speech Contest • Each club may send 3 participants, representing 3 DIFFERENT schools to the District event. • The top 3 winners from the District Event will be invited to the Multi-District Event. • Additionally, the first place District winner will present his/her speech at the District Conference. • kmorris@triad.rr.com (336) 887-7435

World Affairs Seminar • 2011 topic: Sustainable Development “Because what we build today should benefit those who inherit our world.” WAS serves as a gateway for students to go and do bigger things: • Travel to Africa, S.A. to teach English • Work for the United Nations, World Bank, … • Head a community outreach program
