  16. Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) – Background Gulf Cooperative Countries High Council (GCCHC) has established the Gulf StandardizationOrganization for Gulf Cooperative Countries (GSO for the GCC)on 9th November 1982. It is the Gulf region standardisation organization for GCC Countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman). GSO members are from all national standardisation organizations in these countries.

  17. Principle Objectives of GSO • Improve gulf countries economics by making them more efficient and competitive. • Promote the development and unity of standardization efforts in the GCC countries. • Promote the industrial, scientific and technological development in the benefit of exchange of goods and the provision of services. • Facilitate cooperation in the intellect, scientific and social fields.

  18. GSOMain Current Activities • It is responsible for issuing new and updating existing Gulf Standards developed and approved by its technical committees. It is also responsible for adopting International Standards as Gulf standards.. • In cooperation with National GCC Standardization Organizations,GSOis currently making significant efforts on the adoption of International Standards on various subjects, as Gulf and National Standards and revise GSO Standards with respect to International Standards.

  19. GSOMain Current Activities Cont., • Harmonization of GCC Standards/Technical Regulations and conformity assessment procedures with International Standards and practices is one of the main items in the current and future plans of GSO. • GSO is planning and looking forward to enhance the participation of the GCC countries in the International Standardization Technical Committees.
