  2. Transition • A change in status from behaving primarily as a student to assuming emergent adult roles in the community • Plan should be made before age 14

  3. Outcomes of LD • Same academic and social problems continue into adulthood • May change their form slightly, but for the most part, LD is a lifelong condition • Related with major phases in life: • High DO rates • Higher underemployment  below their skills • Greater Dependency to others

Transition Programs • School program until age 21  P. 171 • Social skills training • Extremely important  profound effects on adults’ functioning at work and in college • Self-advocacy training • Skinner (1998)  understand their ability, aware of their rights, competence in communicating rights and needs to authority
