  1. Western Red Cedar for Decking, Cladding and Sauna Solid Wood Profiles Western Red Cedar "Western Red Cedar", also known in nature as the "tree of life". Botanically, "Thuja plicata" belongs to Cupressaceae. The Western Red Cedar spread area in the west part of North America from Alaska to California and east to Montana. The trunks can grow to a height without knots of 25 meters and Trees can reach up to 1,000 years. Western red Cedarwood is quite resistant to cold. Slow-grown cedar wood of Western Red Cedar is very light and offers high stability and durability. Its uniform fine-grained structure allows excellent workability and is therefore used for wooden facades, decking and sauna usage. Cedarwood cladding is highly resistant to decomposition, so it is not necessary to treat the wood. Durability Durability: For external use, Red Cedar is highly preferred in architecture due to its resistance to moisture, decomposition and insect resistance. It has a lifetime of 50 to 100 years or more, so it is used for outdoor purposes. The surface finish of the Western Red Cedar Cladding is excellent and also maintained thanks to a natural element called Thujaplicins as well as several water-soluble substances that act as preservatives. Therefore, it provides services without tension for many years. Stability Stability: Red Cedar cladding provides high dimensional stability due to low density and contraction factors. They are high resistance to the action of several forces in motion, such as torsion, deformation and control, does not lead to any change in them. Appearance Appearance: Whenever Red Cedar is used, it provides a feeling of natural beauty and tenderness, which cannot be achieved by using its alternatives such as cement, plastic or other metals. Cedarwood cladding offers a beautiful form of finish with a fine-grained texture. Colour Colour: sapwood is whitish and 2-5 cm wide, the core of the wood is reddish-brown to reddish- brown, often variable. The density of dried wood varies between 340-460 kg / m3, depending on the width of the age rings. After drying, the wood has average dimensional stability, is comfortable and clean with it, has an evenly smooth surface, is easy to polish and finishes. Humidity on delivery is approximate - 18-20% for outdoor floor wood and 10-12% for facades. Cedarwood was affordable even in ancient times. It contains a resin that gives it a typical scent. Internal substances can leak from fresh cut areas and cause wall discolouration. We, therefore, recommend treating all trimmed edges with OSMO Wax for trimmed edges n. 5735. For Western Red Cedar, it is necessary to use non-corrosive fasteners in exterior constructions. The natural greyness of light after almost half a year of weathering is universal and does not affect its quality and durability. Colour differences between the individual boards are typical and may be visible.

  2. Density Density approx. 340 approx. 340 - - 460 kg / m3. 460 kg / m3. In addition to cladding or decking, Western Red Cedar is also used to create things such as fencing, birdhouse, seeders, siding, boat, boxes. Thanks to its property, it is also used for the production of various types of outdoor and indoor items and protects against insect damage or damage by insects. Resistance to decay Resistance to decay: Western Red Cedar heartwood is renowned for its high decay-resistance. This natural durability is attributed to the presence of extractives- mainly the thujaplicins, and to a lesser extent, the water-soluble phenolics which are toxic to several wood-rotting fungi. Western Red Cedar has a durability class 2 in Europe and Australia, the highest category for durability os any softwood listed. Dimensional stability Dimensional stability: Western Red Cedar wood has excellent dimensional stability because of its low wood density and the small shrinkage factor. A significant contributor to this stability is the fact that its moisture content at the fibre saturation point is 18 to 23%, compared to 25% to 30% in most Canadian softwoods. As a result, Western Red Cedar shrinks and swells minimally, displaying only small movements witch changes in humidity. Lower absorption of water is a result of the high extractive content blocking absorption sites. This property contributes to Western Red Cedar's suitability for use in panelling, mouldings and several other applications such as saunas were dimensional stability, and water repellency is essential. Thermal and insulating properties Thermal and insulating properties: Western Red Cedar has a good insulation value because of its low wood density and coarse texture. It is the best insulator among the most common available softwood species and is far superior to brick, concrete and steel. This property ensures that homes built with Western Red Cedar will be cooler in the heat of summer and warmer in winter as opposed to homes using denser species or man-made products. Western Red Cedar's ability to dampen vibrations is an essential acoustical property which makes it particularly useful as panelling and moulding where it is desirable to reduce or confine noise. Flame spreading rate Flame spreading rate: The flame-spread rating of Western Red Cedar is 67 to 73, and the smoke developer classification is 98. Both of these are used to regulate the use of materials where the potential to generate smoke or smoke control movement is essential. Due to its low flame spread rating, it will perform better than most dense softwoods which have flame-spread ratings around 100.

  3. Western Red Cedar has a flame spreading rate and a smoke-developed classification that are considerably below the maximum limits set by most building codes. Finishing and workab Finishing and workability ility: The lack of pitch or resinous extractives that are soluble in paint vehicles contributes to Cedar's excellent finishing properties. Cedar takes a variety of coatings, paints and stains exceptionally well- particularly when dried and properly primed. Western Red Cedar is among the most comfortable timbers to work with because of its straight grain and uniform texture. It planes straight grain and consistent texture. It planes and sands cleanly and, because of its low wood density, requires little energy to saw or otherwise work. Cedar also glues well with a wide range of adhesives and glueing conditions. Grading for decking Grading for decking - - Knotty grade Knotty grade: The highest standard of knotty panelling and moulding, Select Knotty is graded according to criteria specified in NLGA 204a. This grade offers a distinctive, high-quality knotty appearance. It has limited imperfections and restricts knots to sound and tight. Select Knotty is typically provided with a percentage of quality knots. Grading for cladding Grading for cladding - - Clear Grade Clear Grade This grades references NLGA paragraph 200b. 'A 'Clear permits slightly more imperfections than Clear Heart but the grade is still restricted to pieces with excellent overall performance. It is ideály suited to applications where clear appearance is desired, but requirements are somewhat less exacting. Typically panelling if manufacturers offer this grade as A Better with a certain percentage a lower grade B.
