  1. Sun By: Grace Piller, Kayla Knue, Brandon Dietrich

  2. Solar Energy • Solar energy is the energy received by the earth from the sun. • This energy is in the form of solar radiation, which makes the production of solar electricity possible. • Solar energy can be used to power hot water heaters the use of the sun's heat to warm a potable water supply instead of electricity is a very efficient method and truly cost-effective. • Solar HVAC systems, battery-backed off-grid systems, solar farms and more are at the forefront of the solar power world innovations, with more to come.

  3. Solar Energy devices Solar Panels Photovoltaic Cells • A solar panel is a device which is used to convert energy contained within the suns rays into electricity. • Solar Panels are made up of photovoltaic cells. • Take advantage of the photoelectric effect to produce electricity. • Convert sunlight into electricity. • Made up of semiconductor materials

  4. Passive solar design • Windows, walls, and floors are made to collect, store, and distribute solar energy in the form of heat in the winter and reject solar heat in the summer. • Doesn’t use mechanical or electrical devices.

  5. Noteworthy residential precedence Charles Moore House

  6. [re]Form House • 1) Transform- collecting, storing, and transforming collected solar energy into kinetic, electric, and potential energy. • 2) Inform- through abstract and subtle means. Residents will learn how the building works by experiencing it, while gaining a better appreciation. • 3) Perform- though efficient energy was the primary goal, this house will perform as a home, while maintaining beauty and elegance. This home achieves The utmost sustainability.

  7. Team Germany • Two story cube shaped house • Covered in PV panels (photo voltaic), which produce up to 11.1 kW of power. • Able to produce twice as much power than is actually needed for the house. • Sustainability, focusing on the façade. • Single multifunction space Inside.
