  1. Computer Parts By: Vaite Mahuru

  2. A striped-down modem that replaces tasks traditionally handled in hardware with software. • Designed to create voltage variations on the telephone lone and to sample the lone voltage levels. Modem

  3. A computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network, usually using special cables. Network Card

  4. Sound Card • (also known as an audio card) • An internal computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output of audio signals to and from a computer under control of computer programs.

  5. Case • Contains the major components of the computer. It helps protect them.

  6. CPU • Central Processing Unit. • 2 parts: AOU and Control Processing Unit. • The hardware within a computer system or smartphone which carries out the instructions of a program or application software by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system. • Made of: Lots of many switches. • Example: Hit ‘A’ and will give off a code to the switches, witch is like “0 11 0 0 1 0”

  7. FAN • Any fan inside, or attached to a computer case. • Used for active cooling, and may refer to fans that draw cooler air into the case from the outside, expel warm air from inside.

  8. Monitor • An electronic visual display for computer. • Monitor comprises the display device, circuitry and an enclosure.

  9. Video Card • Expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display. • Most video cards offer various functions such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes and 2D graphics.

  10. Output Device • Any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) which converts the electronically generated information into human-readable form. • Example: • Printer • Speaker • Screen(monitor)

  11. Input Device • Used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or other information appliance. • Example: • Mouse • Keyboard • Flash Drive

  12. Software • Collection of computer programs and related data that provides the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it. Software refers to one or more computer programs and data held in the storage of the computer.

  13. A typewriter-style device, which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys, to act as mechanical levers or electronics switches. • Following the decline of punch cards and paper tape, interaction via teleprinter-style keyboards became the main input device for computer. Keyboard

  14. Mouse • A pointing device that functions by detecting two-dimensional motion relative to its supporting surface. Physically a mouse consists of an object held under one of the user’s hands, with one or more buttons.

  15. CD Rom/CD/DVD/Blue-Ray • Optical Devices that uses light to collect and store data. • CD Rom: Pre-pressed compact disc that contains data accessible to, but not writable by, a computer for data storage and music playback. • CD: Used to store and play back sound recordings only, but the format was later adapted for storage of data. • DVD: Offers higher storage capacity than Compact Discs while having the same dimensions. • Blue-Ray: Refers to the blue laser used to read the disc, which allows information to be stored at a greater density than is possible with the longer-wavelength red laser used for DVD’S

  16. Hard Drive • Used for storing and retrieving digital information from non-volatile memory in a random-access manner.

  17. Random Access Memory. • A random-access device allows stored data to be accessed in very nearly the same amount of time for any storage location, so data can be accessed quickly in any random order. Ram

  18. Rom • Read Only Memory. • Data stored in ROM cannot be modified, or can be modified only slowly or with difficulty, so it is mainly used to distribute firmware.

  19. A passive component that cools a device by dissipating heat into the surrounding air. Are used to cool electronic components such as high power semiconductor devices. Heat sink
