  1. YOUR CHALLENGE: You must write out your own 20 lines of blank verse , as though you are Shakespeare! Use one of the following prompts to write on. • Like Artemidorus, write a letter to a teacher or friend warning him/her that something bad is about to happen. • Like Cassius’ letters to Brutus, write a letter to a teacher or friend “praising” him for all the great things they’ve done for Rome…er…whatever. • Make up your own foreboding omen you saw at Conant and then make up an interpretation for it. • Like Portia and Brutus, yell or plead to your boyfriend or girlfriend (or someone you wish was) to tell you their secrets.

  2. Sample Blank Verse “I wish that I was a caterpillar. It would be so cool to eat leaves all day, And then, at the right time, to just curl up Inside of a cozy cocoon, wait, sleep, And emerge a majestic butterfly.” (See. 10 syllables in each line.)

  3. Sample Iambic Pentameter “Look out, Caesar! Those that you trust dearest Are actually going to kill you. You had been warned about the Ides of March: Just don’t go outside of your house today And you’ll survive to meet your enemies In a more equal and lawful battle.” (See. 10 syllable in each line. Not so tough.)
