2. Mission Statement: Supporting the efforts of the Kiwanis family serving their communities in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District.

3. Overview of the KiwanisCal-Nev-Ha Foundation • Established in 1965 • A non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization • Board consists of 20 members who meet at least three times per year • Meetings open to all!

5. Its Beginning . . . Recognizing the serious need for education and training in the areas of pediatric trauma and injury prevention, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma Program in 1994.

6. Our Mission . . . "To develop local projects, which will reduce the number of children in our District who are killed or injured by trauma."

8. Why PTP? • Unintentional injury remains the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S. • Unintentional injury kills more kids every year than any other cause – including disease, homicide and suicide!

9. Why PTP? • These injuries cost society $157 billion1 annually! • 90% of these injuries could be prevented! 1 Includes direct medical costs, future earnings lost and lost quality of life

How Do We Address These Needs? • Partner Hospitals • The Foundation’s partnership with six children’s hospitals connects the Kiwanis family to the issue of Pediatric Trauma • Utilizing the knowledge and expertise of our partner hospitals, we identify projects the Kiwanis family can undertake to address the issue of Pediatric Trauma

How are PTP Fundraising $$$ Spent? • Grants to our Partner Hospitals • Providing funding to train doctors and nurses in advanced pediatric courses • Purchasing much-needed pediatric medical equipment • Supporting existing and new community outreach programs • The Kiwanis Doctor program • Saving the lives of children by training doctors, nurses and first responders about the latest in pediatric treatment

PTP Project Ideas • Sponsor a bicycle rodeo, child safety fair or child safety seat inspection event • Purchase and distribute bicycle helmets, child safety seats, electric outlet covers, choke tubes, etc. • Educate parents about common dangers found around the home • Distribute dolls to children’s hospitals or provide teddy bears to first responders to comfort children

PTP Grants • Established to assist the Kiwanis Family in financing PTP service projects on a start up basis • PTP grants are for new PTP projects • Grant funding is limited to 50% of the total project cost (see application for specifics) • Kiwanis club grants • SLP club grants • Multi-club grants • Division grants

29. Multi-club Grants • Established to allow clubs working together on one project to apply for grant funds • Multi-club grants are for new PTP service projects only • Grant funding is matching up to $5,000 per grant

30. How to Apply for a Grant • Complete the appropriate PTP grant application • Include the following: • An estimate of service hours committed to the project • Date when funds are required • A copy of the club’s current year Community Service Budget • A project budget including club funds committed, “in-kind” donations, and any other sources of outside funding
