Read today's Auckland News Summary. 1.Denver Chance murder trial: Jay Lingman found guilty Jay Lingman has been found guilty of murdering Auckland man Denver Chance. After a 24-hour deliberation, the jury came to a unanimous verdict on Tuesday, following a trial spanning almost three weeks at the High Court in Auckland. Lingman denied murdering Chance, but pleaded guilty to three charges of possession of drugs, including cocaine and MDMA, for supply. Lingman was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on 11 June.

  2. 2.Employee of Auckland school stole $45,000 for greed and ‘shopping addiction’ An employee at a South Auckland primary school stole more than $45,000 because of personal greed and an “apparent shopping addiction”, while she worked there as an administration officer. Manurewa woman Rosalie Conroy, 31, was sentenced to 11 months’ home detention in the Manukau District Court on Tuesday for charges relating to the theft of $45,295.95 in funds from Wiri Central School throughout 2018 and 2019. Conroy was also charged for obtaining $20,000 worth of items from The Warehouse and Warehouse Statione. 3.Auckland man found guilty of flouting kauri dieback rules on closed Waitākere Ranges tracks An Auckland man is the first person to be found guilty of flouting kauri dieback rules. Kauri dieback disease has forced the closure of more than a hundred tracks across the Waitākere Ranges since 2018. Robert Armitstead made an appearance in the Waitākere District Court on Tuesday, where he was found to have violated Auckland Council’s Public Safety and Nuisance Bylaw by walking on closed tracks three times in 2019.

Armitstead was remanded and will reappear in the Waitākere District Court for sentencing on May 21. 4.Police investigating after person fires blank rounds at another at north Auckland petrol station Police are investigating after reports someone fired blank rounds at another person, at a north Auckland petrol station in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The incident took place at about 4:15am at a Z petrol station on Whangaparāoa Rd, partway along the peninsula. A blank round is a type of firearm cartridge that generates a flash and a loud noise, like any other gunshot, but doesn’t shoot ammunition. 5.Rare Banksy art sells at auction to NZ bidder for $1.45m in big night for Auckland gallery Rare pieces of art by well-known British street artist Banksy have sold at auction in Auckland for a combined $2.348 million. The convicted fraudster and sex offender then used the company to apply to rent a five-bedroom home in Christchurch, claiming he wanted the house for his family and that he was earning $170,000 a year. 11. Advocacy groups cry foul as Auckland liquor stores keep getting approval Frustrated at the spread of liquor stores across South Auckland, local advocacy groups and health officials are calling for an

  7. urgent review of licensing laws and questions about a licensing commissioner with historic ties to the alcohol industry. The proliferation of liquor stores has spiked concerns among residents due to recent crimes in the area. Their concerns are supported by Auckland Regional Public Health Service’s (ARPHS) medical officer of health, Nick Eichler, who said international and New Zealand evidence is clear that more liquor stores means more people being harmed by alcohol. The community is also calling for the DLC commissioner to step down. For the last seven years, Communities Against Alcohol Harm (CAAH) has been fighting against the opening of liquor stores in South Auckland. 12. Free consults at local clinics as Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital experiences heavy demand South Auckland’s district health board is offering free consultations until April 5 at local clinics, as its public hospital experiences “significant pressure. On Tuesday evening, Counties Manukau Health announced that east Auckland and south Auckland residents could visit 16 clinics and be seen for a medical consultation for free. The move comes after 10 days of dealing with an influx of patients at Middlemore Hospital.

Anyone who has come into contact with any counterfeit notes is asked to put them into an envelope and hand them over to police.
