  1. COOL CAMELS BY:WILLIAM SUH 4A

  2. INTRODUCTION Hi. My name is William Suh. I am going to present a presentation about camels. Camels are very interesting animals. They have thick fur and have skinny legs. They are covered in brown and have long eyebrows too. The one with 1 hump is called the Dromedary camel. The one with 2 humps is called the Bactrian camel. This is only part of my presentation. Please see the rest of my show.

  3. THE CAMEL'S HABITAT Camels mostly live in the desert. But in zoos, they live in grassy areas. And they are mostly found in Egypt. However, camels are hard to find because they are endangered. People use there fur! So in some places a zoo is a habitat for the camel.

  4. PROTECTION To protect themselves, camels bite animals trying to attack them. They protect themselves from sandstorms by holding on to the ground as firmly as possible. The feet are comprised of two toes joined with an elastic pad. This helps the camel grasp the earth. The toenails protect the feet from potential damage resulting from a bump. Knees are covered with calluses which are composed of skin as hard and thick as a horn. When the animal lays down on the hot sand, this calloused structure protects it from injury. Camels have nostrils that open and close and an extra eyelid so that it can keep out the sand from the harsh desert environment. The bushy eyebrows and eyelashes also protect the camel from sand.

  5. WHAT THE CAMEL EATS Camels eat plants that grow in the desert. For an instance cactuses and other plants can be prey for the camel! This is because not only that there are only cactuses in the desert, but it is because camels can eat the thorns because their mouths are very tough.

  6. THE CAMEL'S LIFE CYCLE • A camel gives birth to a small calf. • The calf grows by feeding from her mother’s milk. • She grows and gets apart from her mother. • Then she gives birth to another calf. • This cycle goes on and on again. A mother camel and her calf.

  7. IS THE CAMEL ENDANDERED? Yes, camels are endangered. People kill the camel to get their fur or eat them just like people kill elephants because of their tusks. So some camels have to live in zoos to be protected. In the picture above, a camel and its calf are being protected by a zoo. In this way they will not be harmed by people or other predators. So if you are one of the ones that are killing camels……..

  8. INTERESTING FACTS • Camels can go 5 to 7 days with no food or drink. • Camels do not store water in their backs. They actually store fat! • The one humped camel was born earlier than the Bactrian camels.
