  1. IS YOUR ROOF SUFFERING FROM THESE SUMMERTIME PROBLEMS?

  2. While it’s certainly true that problems with your roof can occur at any time of the year, some issues are more seasonal than others, and when the mercury rises, it can bring its own set of roofing concerns. With high temperatures, and your roof exposed to many hours of continuous sun, your roof could soon begin suffering from the following summertime problems, all of which require a timely response to minimize damage and the potential for costly repairs: A buildup of moisture When moisture that’s built up on a roof isn’t spotted and dealt with swiftly (and professionally, of course), it can soon cause it to rust and deteriorate, and even the smallest of leaks can quickly become worrisome, dangerous and costly.

  3. Condensation Summer storms with heavy rains and high winds, when combined with temperatures of 100 degrees and more, often causes condensation to form on a roof, and when this is allowed to build up, it can get heavy and begin to weigh the roof dangerously down. Naturally, this can cause a lot of damage to a roof and should it be left unrepaired for weeks or months, it could pose a significant risk for the inhabitants of the property, not to mention, anyone or anything in the vicinity.

  4. Damaged flashing When a roof is constantly exposed to the sun, as it often is during the long, summer months, its flashing can become damaged, which subsequently increases the rate at which the roof heats up. When this happens, it’s almost impossible to prevent mold from forming on the top of the roof, and flashing that has been seriously damaged, can melt and cause all sorts of problems. An overheated attic Attics can be hot spaces at the best of times, but during summertime, they can get overheated very quickly and cause mold to form on the inside of the roof, due to the high levels of humidity.

  5. Damage from moss When moss and algae build up on a roof they can cause significant moisture damage, and over time – when left untreated – it can make the wood under your roofing material rot and even erode. Unfortunately, when moss is left to grow unabated on a roof, it simply becomes more difficult, and expensive, to get rid of. All of these issues can become costly and significant repair jobs if left untreated for weeks or months (or even days if the problem is severe), and if you spot signs of any of them – whether it’s during the summer months or any other time of year – it’s best to get them reviewed and repaired by a professional roofing company as soon as possible.
