Quick Write • Directions: Write a narrative about something that happened in the past based on the prompt and write in as much detail as possible. • Prompt: People use vacation time or holidays to escape from regular routines such as work and school. Write a piece about a memorable vacation or holiday that you remember from the past. • Must be 3/4ths of a page. Turn into the green folder.

  3. Vote with your feet! • With the following statements, vote whether you agree or disagree. Agree go to the right, disagree to the left, the more towards the middle of the classroom you are the more neutral you are. Beware: you’ll likely have to explain your opinion! 

  4. Statements: • The American Dream is possible for anyone. • Money can get you anything, even love. • If it’s possible to achieve your dream(s), then you should do anything (even something illegal) to make it happen. • Adults usually behave correctly and responsibly. • You can always return to your first love. • People are too concerned with acquiring material things. • It’s easy to move within, and be accepted by other social classes. • The morals of society are steadily declining. • Everyone participates in rumor spreading. • The “dream” or thought is often better than the reality.

  5. Visual Analysis • Identify the colors in the painting. What do you think the colors symbolize? • Identify the details in the painting. What do you think they symbolize? • Describe the tone of the painting. What aspects of the image helped you arrive at this conclusion? • Write a paragraph predicting the plot of the novel based on the book cover.
