  1. Interpreting a Climate Graph with LOWERN

  2. Temperature- low temperatures (6-12 months below 0° • Precipitation- very low precipitation (under 500mm) Latitude

  3. NEED TO BE ON COAST Temperature- warm current will increase temperature, cold current will decrease temperature Precipitation- warm current will make precipitation levels high (above 1000mm) Ocean Currents

  4. It is hard to use wind when interpreting climate graphs- there is no indicator of this on the graph Wind

  5. Can help support your choices • Temperature- the higher the elevation, the colder average temperature you will have • Precipitation- the higher the elevation, the less amount of precipitation Elevation

  6. Can help support your decision • Temperature- warmer on the leeward side of the mountain • Precipitation- higher on the windward side of the mountain Relief

  7. CAN ONLY USE IF ON COAST • Temperature- temperature range is the indicator of location • Near water – under 25° • Inland- over 25° • Precipitation- • Near water- higher amounts- over 1000m Near Water

  8. Coastal City Northern City • What will you see on the climate graph? • Temperature Range under 25° • Precipitation over 1000mm • What will you see on the climate graph? • Consistently low temperatures • Very low precipitation

  9. City inland on leeward side of mountain City in Central or Southern Ontario • What would you see on the Climate Graph? • Large temperature range • Low precipitation • What would you see on the climate graph? • Large temperature range • Moderate precipitation
