  2. Introduction to the Campaign The Suburban Combined Giving Campaign represents the school districts and municipalities in over 20 greater Milwaukee communities. The Combined Giving Campaign is a collaboration between three federations: Community Health Charities of Wisconsin Community Health Charities represents 75 member charities that provide research, patient services and outreach programming in Wisconsin. Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee has over 55 local non-profit membership organizations which focus on social justice, animal welfare and the environment. United Way of Greater Milwaukee United Way of Greater Milwaukee strives to achieve results in Education, Income and Health in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Waukesha and Washington counties.

  4. Steps of a Successful “Ask” 1. Get donors’ undivided attention. 2. Ask for the pledge. 3. Answer questions and handle concerns. 4. Say thank you.
  5. Remember: Retirees make a difference! Your retirees are among the fastest growing populations and often have the greatest capacity and inclination to give back to our community. In fact, statistics show that retirees give a much larger portion of their income to charities than the national average. Retirees give up to 7%, compared with about 3% for the general population. Often the only reason retirees have not contributed is because they have not been asked. Benefits to Retirees Empowers retirees to remain active within the community. Builds retiree’s relations by providing a channel for communication. Reinforces the retiree’s identification and commitment to causes important to the organization. How to Initiate a Retiree Campaign Solicit retirees during the exit interview process or before the employee leaves. Write article for retiree newsletter (if applicable). Invite a Loaned Executive to attend retiree meeting and speak about the Combined Giving Campaign. Send Listing and pledge form to recently retired staff. Ask retirees to help volunteer during campaign.
  6. PLANNING YOUR CAMPAIGN: KEY DATES
  7. Filling out the Pledge Form: Your information: Print your personal information. Please print legibly. You MUST sign if you are going to be selecting payroll deductions Use the “A” boxes on the pledge form to contribute to one or more umbrella group(s). Specify the total annual amount in the appropriate boxes. Use the “B” boxes to contribute to specific charities. Use the “C” box to make a general contribution to benefit all umbrella groups and their member charities. You may use any combination of options A, B, and C. Use the “D” box to donate to 501(c)(3) agency not in the campaign booklet.
  8. Filling out the Report Envelope: Tally the number of non-payroll donations (cash, check, credit card) and their total dollar amount Tally the number of payroll pledges and their total dollar amount Tally A+ B Tally total dollar amount from any special events Tally C+D
