Chapter 2 Steps to a Valid NJ Driver License
Tests to Pass • Knowledge – score an 80% or better on a 50 question test. • Vision/Eyesight – must have 20/50 Vision or better • Road Test
Languages for Knowledge Test • English Polish • Arabic Portugese • Chinese Russian • French Spanish • Japanese • Korean • Oral exams in English and Spanish
Health Restrictions • Corrective Lenses Required = 1 • Prosthetic Device = 2 • Mechanical Device = 3 • Hearing Impaired = 4 • Attached Restrictions = 5
Road Tests • During Road Test you must provide a vehicle with: 1. valid inspection sticker 2. current registration 3. current insurance card for vehicle 4. valid learners or examination permit 5. accompanying driver who must be licensed to operate the vehicle
Road Tests (cont.) • Licensed driver must remain in vehicle with applicant at all times!!!!!!!! • Applicants are prohibited from moving the vehicle even in the road test lane without the licensed driver! • Cannot take road test in vehicle with obstructions or consoles between applicant driver and examiner. (they must be able to reach emergency brake!!)
You will be tested on: Driving in reverse Stopping at signs Following other vehicles Stopping on downgrades or upgrades (hills) Nearing corners and intersections Stopping smoothly Parallel and other parking Turning Sitting properly
You will be tested on: (cont) Using the horn Starting a vehicle (Check mirrors too!) Yielding the right-of-way Steering Properly Speed Control
Reasons For Failing Road Test • If you fail, you must wait at least 2 weeks before you may retake test. • A vehicle may fail the test for you because of: -improper, expired, or no inspection sticker -unsafe or unsuitable vehicle -Administrator cannot reach emergency brake - poor brakes, unsafe tires, unreasonable unclean interior, missing seatbelts, or other defects
Things to Remember: • Take the test in a car you are comfortable with driving • Practice each area of driving continuously for test • Don’t rush, take your time • Do not listen to the radio during test! • Stay relaxed!! • Mayhem
