  1. 1 Five Ways to Perform Asbestos Removal or Containment in NZ Right up until the end of the 1980s, it was common practice to use asbestos siding and roofing within both domestic and commercial buildings in New Zealand. Unfortunately, the deadly legacy of this out-of-date building material lingers on to this day. Since the dangers of asbestos are now common knowledge, many property owners are opting for asbestos removal across New Zealand, to keep property occupants, users and visitors, safe from harm. There are five primary methods of containing or removing asbestos and we’ll outline them for you below. Asbestos Removal Support in New Zealand When it comes to asbestos, you don’t necessarily need to remove it. It could be safer to contain asbestos than risk disturbing it. These five methods cover both scenarios: https://www.acanz.co.nz/

  2. 2 Demolition – Tearing down properties that include asbestos material can be a time-consuming and complicated process. There are also health risks involved because of the possibility of the asbestos fibres going airborne. Demolition is an option when it’s not possible so safely contain or remove the asbestos. Removal – When a company eliminates the asbestos, they leave the majority of the building intact while removing the hazardous materials. While the company removes the asbestos, you will need to find alternate accommodation for any residents, as well as considering repair costs. The removal company typically hauls any asbestos away to a safe facility. Encapsulation – If you choose to encapsulate the asbestos, a protective coating is used to seal the asbestos in. The coating is sprayed directly onto the asbestos-containing materials before hardening to prevent fibres escaping into the air. Encasement – Encasement is very similar to encapsulation, but is a longer-term solution. It requires a thicker spray coating, and mechanical fasteners in order to adhere asbestos- containing materials. The fluid mix dries into a hard shell that is resistant to water, heat, trauma, ultraviolet light, acids, and seismic events. Enclosure – The final option available is an enclosure. The company you choose will place plywood or Gypsum board around any materials in the building that have asbestos contamination. This process is a short-term fix, and it doesn’t prevent the escape of airborne fibres. Contact Assess Control Assure for Asbestos Removal Support! https://www.acanz.co.nz/
