  1. Welcome! 7th Grade Science Mrs. Kroll

  2. Please sign in…. Please provide me with … your name student’s name student’ class period your email address

  3. 7th Grade Science Modules • Dynamic Planet: Plate Tectonics, Hydrosphere/Atmosphere, Thermodynamics, Wave Interactions • Resource Management: Flow of Matter and Energy, Conservation of Matter, Physical/Chemical Changes, Resources vs. Human Need, Environmental Issues • Vulnerability: Evolution, Ecology, Environmental Issues/Changes, Gradual and Sudden Environmental Changes

  4. Thinking Like A Scientist • We will investigate many scientific problems, issues and conditions, as well as experimenting with them. 7th Grade science seeks to do the following: • Teach students how to carry out scientific investigations. • Teach students how to use science to solve problems. • Teach students how to use science to make responsible decisions.

  5. We will learn these things by… • investigative laboratory experiments • discussions • science readings • writing • creating a variety of products – mostly using technology.

  6. Overall science grades will be determined by the three weighted categories listed below: • 50% Evaluations (quiz, test, projects, notebook) • 40% Classwork (warm-ups, labs, class assignments) • 10% Homework I use Pinnacle so you can access your child’s grade online. The website is http://grades.fcps.org and the password and ID numbers are the student’s school number. I also post my Assignments and Homework through Remind101 and on my teacher webpage at: http://education.fcps.org/bcms/node/708

  7. Notebooks/Class Materials Because we do not have a textbook students will be using a variety of resources and their science notebook as their resources for class. Please periodically review through your child’s notebook and check your child’s progress. This will provide you with a snapshot of what we are doing in class, and may clarify any questions you have for me. Students should have the following materials for class: • 3 ring binder • 4 dividers (Warm Ups, Assignments, Resources, Assessments) • Loose-leaf paper • Pens/Pencils • Items to share with other classes: ruler, colored pencils or markers

  8. Behavior Behavior each day is expected to be exemplary. I tolerate no disrespect displayed toward myself, nor toward fellow classmates. If a warning from me does not resolve the problem, then I will call home and/or send a note or e-mail in the event your behavior does not reach my expectations. My expectations follow the Frederick County Character Counts program Students that are uncooperative with a substitute teacher will be assigned an after – school detention. These detentions and all other detentions are held after school.

  9. Computers/Internet/Technology Sometimes, we go to the computer lab and we may use the Internet. I take all precautions to ensure that students are using this valuable resource appropriately and that our computers are not compromised. Students misusing equipment or the privilege of using online resources will be subject to the FCPS disciplinary policy and may lose their privileges. So that I can plan better for using technology please go to my webpage http://education.fcps.org/bcms/node/708 and complete the technology survey for your child – Click on the page TECH IN THE Science Classroom. The survey form is embedded on the page. Much of the work we will do this year will be posted on our Edmodo class site. Each student has a user name and password to access the materials. Edmodo is compatible with most tablets and phones as well as computers and Chromebooks. Access Edmodo at: https://fcps.edmodo.com Parents that would like to have an Edmodo account to follow along with our class should go to the site, click on I’m a parent and enter the code your child provided to you. Each parent has a unique parent access code.

  10. Thank you for coming! I am looking forward to a great year!
