Mon., Sept. 9, 2013 Vocabulary Group 2 “I can…preview a set of vocabulary terms for familiarity and/or clarification.” • TODAY YOU WILL NEED: • Pen/pencil; Blue or black pen for the quiz • Composition notebook • Your brain! • DO NOW: • Fold and/or mark the right and bottom sections for Cornell notes. • Receive a copy of the Vocabulary Unit 2 list and paste it into your notebook. Mon., Sept. 9, 2013 Vocabulary Group 2 “I can…preview a set of vocabulary terms for familiarity and/or clarification.” • TODAY YOU WILL NEED: • a writing utensil • Composition notebook • Your brain! • DO NOW: • Look at YESTERDAY’S page. • Read through the words and definitions and come up with ONE of each of the following: • One question (Q)about any word or group of words • One connection (C)to any word(s) • One reflection(R),or your general thoughts about some or all of the words, their purpose, their meaning, etc. • (Use the examples as inspiration ONLY!!! Do not copy them!) • As the class reviews their QCR responses, choose at least two questions to write in the right-hand margin for your Cornell notes. Vocabulary Group 2 Examples! Q: Do all of these words have something in common? C: I have heard of the term “incline” being use d in science class. R: The quiz this week might be easy because a lot of these words sound familiar.

Tues., Sept. 10 “The Lottery” NAAMES Character Analysis • NAAMES Character Analysis: • On a new sheet, put the date and topic at the top of the page. • Receive a handout and FOLD IT IN HALF. • Anchor tab and paste the top portion of one side of the handout into your notebook so that it folds out into a flap.

(This should be pasted in perpendicular to the notebook as per the instructions on the previous slide.)

Fri., Sept. 13 “The Lottery” – Timed Writing #2 Prompt: Review the notes that you took on …about NAAMES. Think about what you learned about the character of Mrs. Hutchinson from the story. In a thoughtful, well-organized, and detailed response, explain how Mrs. Hutchinson’s character traits influenced how she responded to the lottery drawing.
