HOW TO PREPARE YOUR COMPUTER FOR THE BEST REPAIR EXPERIENCE Whenever you face a situation where you need to get your computer fixed or repaired, there are some steps that you should take before sending your computer to the repair shop. Most of these steps are to ensure that you are saving your precious data and it will also help the repair professional to provide you the best repair experience. Our team at Ask Computers always asks our customers to follow these tips before they send us their computer for the repair. So let’s discuss the things that you should do to prepare your computer for the best repair experience. Backup your data: There is a chance that during the repair of a computer, some of the data stored in the hard drive might be lost. So it is a highly recommended practice that you should backup your important data before sending your computer for the repair. There are many backup utility programs available which you can utilize to back up

  2. your data. You will also need an external hard drive to store your data. You can even create a backup image of your computer’s hard drive. After you get your computer back from the repair, you can use the backup image to restore all of the data you want. Another way to back up your important files is to upload them to a cloud storage site. Dropbox and OneDrive are two of the most famous cloud- based storage sites. Log out of your Accounts: Another practice that is recommended to do before you send your computer for a repair is to log out of all of your accounts which you have logged in. These accounts include your email accounts, your social media accounts and any other account which might contain your personal and sensitive information. You should also delete all the browsing history from your browser. If you use multiple browsers like Google Chrome and Firefox, you should delete the history from all of them. Make your computer accessible: As most of us protect our computers with a login password, it is recommended that you should disable the login password. The repair technician will require being logged on to your computer so it will help with the best repair experience. You should also keep in mind that you should only do this practice when you are sure that the technician will need to boot your laptop to the Windows desktop to repair it. If that’s not the case, then you should not give your computer password to anyone. Protect Sensitive files: All of us have files stored in our computers which contain personal and important data which we don’t want anyone else to see. So it’s a good practice to protect all of those sensitive files before sending your computer for a repair. These files can include credit card statements, bank account statement or tax forms. In order to protect these sensitive files, you can either encrypt them or delete them before making a backup.
