The Army Hiring Process • Create a resume, save and submit on www.cpol.army.mil (comprehensive / selecting officials don’t have to interview) • Search for job openings on www.armycivilianservice.com • Apply or Self-nominate for job openings • If you are among the best qualified you will make a referral list • The list is sent to the selecting official from which to choose a candidate • Entire process is automated

  6. What is Area of Consideration? Duties: You will be responsible for monitoring the command�s Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Budget. Establishes and maintains a continual dialogue and positive functional interface, liaison, and coordination with other Army agencies, to exchange information, resolve problems, obtain resources, coordinate program activities, and provide guidance concerning procedural and operational requirements to perform the mission… Who May Apply: (Click on Who May Apply) • Current Army employees with competitive status (includes Army employees serving on a career or career-conditional appointment). • Applicants eligible under Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) • Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) eligibles.

What is Preference • Veterans preference makes you more competitive than non veterans on the referrallist • Selecting officials cannot bypass a veteran to select a non-veteran unless the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) approves the bypass (which is rare) • Disabled & VRA = 10 points • VEOA = 5 points

Misconceptions • Veterans Preference does not guarantee referral or selection. • Veterans have to be among the best qualified to make a referral list when competitive evaluation is utilized whether they have veteran’s preference or not. • You can meet the minimum qualifications as described by OPM but not be among the best qualified.
