Any student participating in an IHSAA sponsored sport during that semester (you must complete the season in good standing). *category 1 A student who completes one semester of general PE (and earns an A or A-) or successfully completes 1 semester of the waiver program are eligible to substitute advanced PE courses for their second credit. *category 2 Performing arts students participating in the marching band or school sponsored dance classes. Students must pass their performing arts class with at least a B- to earn the PE credit. *category 3 An athlete in an “Olympic training level” individual sport. There are stringent requirements here and will be handled on a case by case basis. *category 4 Who can get a waiver?

  3. What Steps do I take? • Obtain the waiver information packet • Make sure you fit one of the 4 categories that are available • Get your parent’s permission! • Fill out & turn in the necessary forms • Talk to your counselor • Meet with the PE Waiver Teacher of Record

  5. How do I complete my waiver? Waiver I Assessment/Requirements: • 12 journal entries • Complete all required paperwork (time logs, season ended in good standing, B- or better in class, etc) Waiver II Assessment/Requirements: • 3 completed projects • Complete all required paperwork (time logs, season ended in good standing, B- or better in class, etc)

  6. How do I complete my waiver? • Moodle will be used to complete the waiver assessments and turn them in to the PE waiver teacher of record. • You must be ORGANIZED and RESPONSIBLE for your own learning while completing your waiver semester! • Taking a PE waiver could be considered as an “independent study” of physical education.

  7. When can I take a waiver? • You must complete your waiver requirements during the SAME semester that you are involved in the qualifying activity (IHSAA sport, marching band, etc.). • You can take the waiver option of category 2 only AFTER successfully completing another waiver category OR earning an A- or better in general PE.

Golf (boys) Gymnastics Softball Swimming (both) Tennis (girls) Track (both) Wrestling Eligible Activities for PE Waiver(Categories 1 & 3) *All sports listed above are IHSAA sponsored.

  9. What happens if….. • I get cut from my sport? If you are cut from a team, or do not finish the season in good standing, you will not receive the credit from your waiver semester. • I don’t finish the assessment requirement? You will not pass your waiver semester and a resulting ‘F’ will be on your transcript. You will have to re-take a physical education class or waiver to meet graduation requirements.

  10. CATEGORY 2 You MUST have successfully completed a previous waiver OR earned an A- or better in PE Individual Sports or PE Team Sports to qualify! First semester Freshmen are not eligible for Category 2 Waivers. CATEGORY 4 This is for athletes participating in special circumstances. Parents and students must contact either Mr. Gaddis or Mr. Gobert to request a category 4 waiver. Category 4 waiver applications MUST be approved by BOTH schools. What about Categories 2 & 4?
