Online collective catalogues “The library should provide access to the resources of the library and to those of other libraries and information services through the creation and maintenance of and participation in effective electronic networks at all levels from local to international. This can include participation in community networks, programmes to develop technologically advanced communities and electronic networks linking two or more agencies. Liasing with the public THE COPENHAGEN DECLARATION(1999) DEMOCRACY AND CITIZENSHIP – Public libraries have a strategic opportunity to increase quality of life and democratic possibilities for citizens of the Information Societies by providing free and equal access to high-quality information.

Online libraries services • a public service included in the Quality processes which citizens demand from public administration • creating what is called the 24x7 library services: • make and cancel requests for books • renew loans • produce personal themed bibliographies • consult guides made by librarians • give opinions and suggestions to libraries • use electronic or digital resources 4.   21. Library laws • Specific laws which regulate the sector • National law which regulates: • State libraries • defines library cooperation in Spain • Laws which are updated to the necessities and evolution of the sector

  28. Conclusions At this moment we can say that we have: • More modern buildings • More and newer books • An improve service • New library card holders • Trained staff

  29. To improve • The relationship betwen library administrations • Achieve better financial cooperation • Increase the visibility of libraries in the media • Advertising campaings to atract new users

  30. Thinking about where the future will be At the moment we are facing a double challenge: - the impact of library 2.0 - libraries as meeting place - adequate training of librarians - and MONEY!!
