  4. Step One Prepare clothes and treat stains • Empty Pockets • Shake out loose dirt • Tie strings • Zip zippers • Remove jewelry • Mend rips or tears • Pre-treat stains

  5. Oops, I spilled it !! At school or out • Lift off excess • Pat with cool water • Launder ASAP!! Temporary spot treatment

  6. Pre-treat stains before washing Common methods: • Heavy duty detergent -pour directly on spot then scrub • Commercial Stain removers -follow package directions • Soak in correct bleach solution -1/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon water • Check internet for stain removal Stains

  7. Now sort the Machine Washables only

  8. Set Aside Dry clean only Hand wash

  9. Step 2 Sort the Machine Washable Clothes According to: Water temperature Color Fabric and Construction Amount of dirt

  10. Cold warm hot Check the Fabric care label Cold Warm Hot WaterTemperature

  11. Color Whites and pastels together Same color brights together Dark colors together Wash multi-colors with light background separately first

  16. Fabric Softener Types: a) Liquid – pour into washer dispenser or final rinse b) Dryer sheets c) Built into the detergent • Reduces static cling • Makes clothes smell and feel good • Reduces wrinkles

  17. Arrange Clothes in the Washing Machine 1. Never overload the washer 2. Put clothes evenly around the wringer – top loading washer 3. Never leave clothes folded 4. Put Larger items on the bottom

  18. Set the Water Level 1. Choose: Low Medium High 2. Choose the level that allows clothes to move around freely.

  19. Select the water temperature Follow the care label Hot cleans the best But may cause damage Warm cleans okay Cold does an adequate cleaning job All rinsing should be done on cold to save energy (electricity)

  20. Set the Cycle Dials • Gentle • Regular • Permanent Press Difference = amount of: + AGITATION

  21. Turn on the Washer • Water starts to fill tub • The washer starts to agitate clothes • for 10-15 minutes • Soapy water spins off • Washer fills again with rinse water • The clothes are agitated again • The rinse water spins off • Done

  22. Remove Clothes from Washer Set aside any clothes that are to be dried flat such as bathing suits and sweaters.

  23. Use the Dryer Correctly • Before drying clothes, shake them so they are not bunched up 2.Check that all stains are removed since the dryer heat will set the stain. 3. Never put soaking wet clothes into dryer 4. Avoid over-drying 5. Remove clothes from dryer as soon as it stops running. 6. Clean the lint filter frequently to avoid fires.
