Understanding the PSAT • What? • Preliminary SAT • Measures 3 Areas: Critical Reading, Math, Writing Skills • Integral component of the college readiness pathway • Why? • Improve teaching and learning • Prepares students for the SAT • Increases participation in Advanced Placement Program • Provide entry into scholarship programs, including National Merit Scholarship Program (96th percentile) • When? • October 13, 2011
