  9. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 4 My speech and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit, 5 so that your faith might not be based on men’s wisdom but on God’s power.

  20. 1 Corinthians 2:1-6 1When I came to you, brothers, announcing the testimony of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom. 2 For I didn’t think it was a good idea to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 My speech and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit, 5 so that your faith might not be based on men’s wisdom but on God’s power. 6 However, we do speak a wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 2 Cor. 5:11 Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we seek to persuade people.

  21. 1 Corinthians 2:1-6 1When I came to you, brothers, announcing the testimony of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom. 22. 1 Corinthians 2:1-6 1When I came to you, brothers, announcing the testimony of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom. 1 Cor. 1:18  For the message of the crossis foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is God’s power to us who are being saved.

  23. 1 Corinthians 2:7-9 7 On the contrary, we speak God’s hidden wisdomin a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written: What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind—God prepared this for those who love Him. (Isaiah 52:15; 64:4)

  24. 1 Corinthians 2:7-9 7 On the contrary, we speak God’s hidden wisdomin a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written: What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind—God prepared this for those who love Him. (Isaiah 52:15; 64:4) Come back next week!!!

  25. 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 10 Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man that is in him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

  26. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.

  27. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 12 Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. 13 We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.   Why can’t others see what seems so clear?

  28. 1 Corinthians 2:14 14 But the unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.

  29. 1 Corinthians 2:14 14 But the unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.

  30. 1 Corinthians 2:14 14 But the unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.

  31. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 15 The spiritual person (one), however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 16 For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

  32. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 15 The spiritual person (one), however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 16 For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. Are believers somehow above or beyond evaluation (judgment)?

  33. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 15 The spiritual person (one), however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 16 For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. What does it mean that we can (and should) evaluate everything?

  34. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. 15 The spiritual person (one), however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 16 For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

  35. 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 1Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers?

  36. 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 1Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers? Hebrews 5:11-1411 We have a great deal to say about this, and it’s difficult to explain, since you have become too lazy to understand. 12 Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the basic principles of God’s revelation again. You need milk, not solid food. 13 Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature—for those whose senses have been trained to distinguish between good and evil.

  37. 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 1Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers? Hebrews 4:12  For the word of Godis living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart.

  38. 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 1Brothers, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, because you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 because you are still fleshly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and living like unbelievers? Our primary path toward wisdom is a life-long, intentional, resilient hike through Scripture…

  39. Conclusions • God and Paul (good leadership) are not ok with perpetual spiritual infancy • Growth in God’s wisdom (maturity) is a process • Heb. 5:14 “those whose senses have been trained” • Discernible growth in God’s wisdomshould not take a long time • Our growth in God’s wisdom is directly tied to our life in the Word…

  40. Conclusions • God and Paul (good leadership) are not ok with perpetual spiritual infancy • Growth in God’s wisdom (maturity) is a process • Heb. 5:14 “those whose senses have been trained” • Discernible growth in God’s wisdomshould not take a long time • Our growth in God’s wisdom is directly tied to our life in the Word… John 8:30-3230 As He was saying these things, many believed in Him. 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
