  1. WP 5: standards • Objektives: • Make the standard (EN 12975) accepted everywhere without additional national requirements • Make “Key-marking” of Solar tanks possible in order to ease also transnational trade of solar tanks

  2. Task 1: General acceptance of Standards • New work item on revision of EN 12975 accepted by TC 312 involving: • Quality testing of ETC • Annual energy output calculation procedure • Requirements and test methods for collector components • Improved exposure test • Minor items for reversion

Quality testing of ETC • NEGST W4.1 – Resource document • Recommendations for revision of present methods (EN 12975) • Thermal performance testing – Efficiency testing and thermal capacity • Problems with dry out effect during high irradiance conditions • The present collector model is not able to accurately model the thermal capacitance and time constant • The method available for calculating the thermal capacity (6.1.6.2) of the collector has been reported to underestimate the figures for ETCs

Quality testing of ETC • NEGST W4.1 – Resource document • Recommendations for revision of present methods (EN 12975) • Thermal performance testing: • Efficiency testing • Thermal capacity • Stagnation temperature measurement • Specification of physical properties • Quality testing: • Test cycle: efficiency – stagnation – efficiency • High temperature resistance- and exposure test • Mechanical load • Impact resistance

Annually energy output calculation procedure • Desirable features of a common method for • collector energy output • Should be a part of standard (EN 12975) as an informative annex when ready • Easy to perform but enough sophisticated to take account specific features of most common collectors in the market. • Based on weather data from 3-4 reference locations in Europe • Relating to the standard for EPBD calculations prEN15316-4-3 • Relating to the procedure for m2 to kWh conversion and IEA world statistics

Annually energy output calculation procedure • Inquiry results for a common procedure • Hour by hour calculation with constant collector mean temperature and different climates. • 4 climates and locations (Wurzburg, Athens, Davos and Stockholm), Meteonorm data. 3 inlet temperature (25, 50 and 75ºC). 50ºC is the reference temperature. • To be implemented in Microsoft Excel • Possible to include other inlets temperatures, climates and locations • SP provide some sample calculations before we decide to finalize the procedure

  11. Requirements and test methods for collector components • Status January 2007 • Accepted as a part of upcoming revision of EN 12975. This was done at the CEN TC meeting in Canary Island in April 2006. The work within CEN will be activated as soon as financing for implementations work on the M/369 is available • Two documents regarding collector components are delivered as input to the upcoming revision • Recommended qualification test procedure for solar absorbers durability (Carlsson, 2004) • Polymeric materials in solar collectors – Test methods and technical requirements (Spilg, 2004)

Requirements and test methods for collector components • Status January 2007 • Improved exposure / accelerated ageing test of collectors • Suggested from NEGST that the Australian method should be taken as a starting point for the development of a new exposure test sequence in EN 12975. The method is circulated in NEGST • Polymeric materials in solar collectors • New IEA-task is in definition phase

Minor items for reversion of EN 12975 • Application of the standards to tracking/concentrating collectors – input ready to TC312 • Differented mechanical load test depending on collector type - incorporated to ETC suggestion • Installer recommendations with regard to high performing collectors - incorporated to ETC suggestion

Task 2: Establish the basis for Key marking of solar tanks • Inputs from JEN: • 5.2.1 Solar tanks (prEN12977-3) was brought to the final prEN stage in cooperation with TC 312 • The CEN inquiry will probably take place in autumn 2006 and the EN will be available in January 2007 if there is a positive result of the vote • 5.2.2 Development of scheme rules for Key marking solar tanks • Funding for revising standards to fulfil requirements in M324, Energy labelling of hot water tanks will most probably be available from December 2006. Anyway we can with rather little effort develop a rough draft of Solar tank scheme rules.

Task 2: Establish the basis for Key marking of solar tanks or for custom built systems • Inputs from JEN: • Study on available methods and costs for tests on corrosion protection remains to be done if SK scheme rules are to be developed. • HD points out that the development of SK scheme rules for tanks will be relevant even if we go for CBS? • JEN suggest that SKII-WP5 acts as “internal hearing group” giving comments through out the revision of the tanks standards due to the M324 requirements • JEN suggest to make a (rough) draft of Solar Keymark scheme rules for tanks – this should be rather easy done with some “cut and paste” from the collector/system scheme rules
